Hatchback
The second generation Honda City (GA2) update took place in October 1988. The car received a number of visual changes (a completely new front part with even narrower optics, a modified rear part), the interior was updated, there are also technical innovations, in particular, in more expensive versions, the model was equipped with a new 1.3-liter engine with 82 l capacity .s., which is now the main model. The previous basic version with a 76-horsepower engine was awarded only one, the most inexpensive configuration. To improve performance, the car was also offered with a proprietary injection system, which was standard for 1.3 CR-i and 1.3 CZ-i models.
In the 1989 Honda model year Honda City showroom, some changes were made to increase the sensory perception of the interior, as more expensive and luxurious as it applies to a car of this class. The hatchback received a new dashboard, new trim options and upholstery, an improved list of equipment. The CZ-i series included standard 13-inch aluminum wheels, power mirrors and power windows. Some configurations, such as the special CR-i Limited series, regularly included a cassette player, air conditioning, leather seats, optional trim around the body and a sunroof. In 1991, SELECT was launched on the basis of the standard CE version with a standard automatic transmission, air conditioning and stereo. In 1992, the CE Fit model appeared, in which, in addition to the air conditioner and power accessories, a CD reader was installed. In the simplest version with a 1.2-liter engine (BE version), the owner, as before, could only rely on the required minimum: tachometer in the instrument panel, rear wiper, radio. The 16-valve D12A engine (working volume of 1237 cm3), the maximum power of which reaches 76 horsepower (6500 rpm), remained the power unit for the most inexpensive versions of Honda City in 1988-1994. This engine endowed a fairly light hatchback (about 700 kg) with a certain amount of sportiness (less than 10 kg / hp). However, the new D13C unit has improved performance. It also has a single-shaft type SOHC design and a 16-valve gas distribution mechanism, but with a working volume of 1296 cm3 it delivers a maximum of 82 liters. with. at the same speeds and higher torque (103 Nm versus 98 mi) at a speed of 4000 rpm - these are the characteristics of the electronically controlled carburetor version. With the proprietary PGM-FI injection system, the engine output reached 100 “horses” and the torque was increased to 114 Nm (at 5500 rpm). The specific power was only 7.6-7.8 kg / hp. All three powertrain options worked with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an electronically controlled 4-band Hondamatic automatic transmission. All models have front-wheel drive. As for fuel consumption, its value in the 10/15 mode was 5-6 l / 100 km for models with a 1.2-liter engine, 5.7-6.9 l / 100 km with a 1.3 liter unit and 6 , 2-7.1 l / 100 km in its injection version.

The design of the Honda City suspension uses MacPherson struts in front and a torsion beam at the rear - a balance is reached between ride comfort, stability and handling, the latter is also supported by the presence of a power steering as standard. It is worth recalling that, compared to the first-generation model, the Honda City GA2 has more sporting features, a low wide wedge-shaped shape with wide-winged wheels spaced at the corners - a track of 1400/1410 mm (front / rear), with a wheelbase size of 2400 mm. Improved stability also provides a low center of gravity. After restyling, the hatchback became a little longer - 3605 mm (+ 45 mm), the width and height of its body did not change - 1620 and 1335 mm, respectively. Interior dimensions: 1660 x 1315 x 1105 (L x W x H). The trunk is small, but a folding rear seat allows it to be increased.

The safety of the second-generation Honda City met the current requirements of its time. The car body met the necessary standards for passive safety. Adopted halogen headlights for more efficient lighting of the road, safety design of the exterior door handles, bumpers, interior panels, three-point belts installed front and rear. After restyling, the Honda City got even better - new trim levels and more powerful engines appeared. Its characteristics caused a certain interest in the car, especially in the 100-strong modification, and was perceived as a more affordable and smaller copy of the Civic. As for the shortcomings of the car, this is a harsh suspension, not good enough insulation. The car was not among the common ones in our market, and there are difficulties with spare parts.
