Honda Logo 1 generation 10.1996 - 10.1998

Hatchback
In 1996, Honda, continuing the policy of producing recreational vehicles, launched the Logo model. In these years, the appearance of the hatchback promised great popularity, since simplicity attracted consumers. However, expectations were not met - the demand for Logo was low. The reason that this car (despite its luxurious design and interior equipment compared to previously produced compact hatchbacks) was not able to achieve a normal level of sales was the change in market requirements. At this time, high compact cars began to be in demand - for example, the Mazda Demio, which appeared on the market a little earlier, fits well with these characteristics. The Logo 1996-1998 body is presented in a 3-door and 5-door version, with a single 1.3-liter SOHC engine, but with three types of transmission: mechanics, automatic or CVT.
In the early years of production, the front of the Logo body did not have a radiator grille, but due to the beak-shaped bumper and large headlights, a catchy appearance was created, while the exterior as a whole was inherently simple. The hatchback has black plastic protective pads on the bumpers, black mirror housings and door handles, but in a special design the exterior elements were painted in body color. The model line of the five-door Logo was opened by the standard version G with air conditioning, radio and electric windows. In the fully functional version of the hatchback, the driver's seat has a height adjustment (the angle of inclination of the pillow changes), there is a cosmetic mirror in the sun visor, an indication of the transmission modes in the tidy, Sport and Drive buttons on the steering wheel (it is adjustable for tilt). Logo also has several roomy storage compartments, a hook on the back of the front passenger seat, two cup holders in the console between the front seats. By order, it was possible to get alloy wheels, wood-finish, a rear spoiler, a high-quality audio system with a CD player for several disks, velor upholstery of the cabin and door panels, and a navigation system.

Equipped with Logo 1996-1998 only a 1.3-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. The compact D13B was inherited from the Honda Civic, while the 16-valve timing was replaced by an 8-valve. The engine develops a maximum power of 66 horsepower (at 5,000 rpm) and a torque of 111 Nm (at 2,500 rpm). It is noted that 90% of the torque falls at 1300 rpm. Thanks to this, the engine pulls well from the bottom, giving a very light Logo (five-door weighs 810-890 kg) with good acceleration dynamics. Three transmission options were offered: a 5-speed manual transmission, a 3-band automatic transmission and a Honda Multimatic CVT. Fuel consumption is from 5.1 to 6.0 liters per 100 km in 10/15 mode and 3.6-3.9 l / 100 km in 60 km / h mode. The volume of the fuel tank is 40 liters.

The Honda Logo also has a simple suspension design. Front MacPherson strut, semi-independent torsion beam at the rear. The car is equipped with power steering. The minimum turning radius is 4.6 meters. The wheelbase of the hatchback has a size of 2360 mm. The ride height is 155 mm. Body dimensions: length 3750 mm, width 1645 mm, height 1490-1545 mm. As for the dimensions of the cabin, it is 1705 x 1330 x 1205 mm (L x W x H). Logo rear seat folds down to increase boot volume from 230 to 750 liters.

In the basic configuration of the Honda Logo 1996-1998, the driver’s airbag is standard. The body has zones of programmed deformation, stiffening amplifiers in the doors. Three-point belts (central waist belt) are installed on the rear side seats. Separate trim levels (G and L) for an extra charge could include a front passenger airbag, anti-lock braking system and LSD differential.

With all its objective disadvantages (cramped interior, simple design, lack of sound insulation), the Honda Logo is a worthy representative of its class. In addition, with good equipment, these used cars are considered one of the most affordable. Due to its simplicity, the D13B engine is highly reliable. Perhaps one of the main drawbacks is that the body quickly rusts. There is enough maneuverability for the city in abundance, but it is worth considering that in the behavior on the road the Logo is not distinguished by a “Honda” balance.
