Lexus CT200h became the first purely hybrid car in the premium compact segment. The new car is equipped with a second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system. We are talking about the tandem of the 1.8-liter engine and electric motor - an analogue of the Toyota Prius system. The car has a striking appearance and demonstrates Lexus corporate identity in accordance with the Lexus L-finesse design philosophy, while its creators managed to achieve maximum aerodynamic efficiency and reduce noise. In the American and other markets, Lexus positions this compact model as an environmentally friendly hatchback with a pronounced sporting character. Car sales in the United States started in March 2011, with a base price of $ 29,120. In 2013, the car was restyled, in particular, the front of the updated CT 200h reflects the new development of the Lexus corporate identity. Standard equipment for the US base version includes 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, interior access and keyless start, tilt and reach adjustable steering column, dual-zone climate control, 10-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, multi-function steering wheel , an audio system with a CD player, Bluetooth, USB and 6 speakers. For visual control and management of car systems, a large full-color LCD monitor and a proprietary Remote Touch remote control are used. Additional equipment features include heated front seats, an electric sunroof, an audio system with 10 speakers, leather upholstery (premium vinyl as standard), driver's seat memory settings, a navigation system, and a rear view camera. In 2012, the CT200h received an audible warning system for pedestrians and cyclists and the new F Sport package.

The hybrid installation, as noted, is taken from the Toyota Prius model - a 1.8-liter engine, an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery. Total power - 134 horsepower. Torque is transmitted to the front wheels through a CVT (CVT), while a continuously variable transmission with planetary gear “mixes” the moment from the engine and the electric motor in any proportions - Lexus CT200h can move both on the engine from the engine or the power of the electric motor (in EV mode), and in mixed mode. Fuel consumption is 4 liters per “hundred”.

The Lexus CT200h has an independent McPherson front suspension and a double wishbone rear suspension. The car uses an electric power steering (EPS), in which the gearbox is mounted directly on the subframe, for greater rigidity, better feedback and precise control. The length is 4320 mm, the wheelbase is 2600 mm, and the width is 1765 mm. The car is characterized by short front and rear overhangs. To minimize yaw and improve maneuverability, the components farthest from the center of gravity (and it is located quite low here) are made of aluminum, for example, a hood, a rear door, and bumper reinforcing elements. Passengers are placed as close to the center as possible, this also reduces the possible moment of inertia. The hybrid battery is located under the luggage compartment floor, but within the wheelbase, to optimize weight distribution and balance. The standard 345 liters for luggage with the rear seats folded down on this hatchback easily increase to 960 liters.

CT200h safety equipment includes anti-lock braking system, emergency (auxiliary) braking system, stabilization and traction control systems, ten airbags. Also standard for the United States is Safety Connect, a telematics system with automatic collision notification, the location of a stolen vehicle and an emergency button. As an option, the car offers a preventive safety system, the functions of which include adaptive cruise control. In addition to directly monitoring the speed, the system is able to determine the inevitability of an accident and takes measures to mitigate the consequences of a collision (activation of belt pretensioners, emergency braking).

The car received high consumer ratings from US users. All this is due to the fact that in the compact segment the CT200h stands out for its high fuel efficiency (the best in its class), fast-moving sports design and quite attractive price. In addition to efficiency and safety, the Lexus CT also has the necessary margin in practicality. Its two-link rear suspension with separate springs and shock absorbers takes up a minimum of space in the trunk, and the long wheelbase makes the cabin one of the most spacious in the segment.
