The fifth-generation Lexus ES front-wheel drive sedan premiered in 2006. The new version after the long dominance of three-liter power units (except for the debut of the first generation with a 2.5-liter engine and the short-lived version of the fourth generation with a 3.3-liter engine) for the first time received a 3.5-liter engine. The car is still built on the Toyota Camry platform. However, its premium status is emphasized by its emphasis on premium luxury, with increased attention to the smallest details and rich finishes with wood, polished metal and leather inserts, and also demonstrates a very high level of driving performance and comfort. The all-new ES350 six-speed automatic transmission features Intelligent Electronic Control (ECT-I) and sequential gear shifting. According to the manufacturer, this transmission uses 20 percent fewer parts than the 5-speed automatic transmission of the previous generation, as well as 24 percent less hydraulics for control. All this increased dynamism and profitability.
Already standard equipment, this initial premium car offers 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, a keyless entry and keyless entry system, an electric steering column (with telescopic and vertical adjustment), dual-zone climate control, an electric front seats with many adjustments, electric side mirrors and windows (for the latter - with one-touch function for all windows). The standard audio system provides for a six-disc CD changer, and in options - a Mark Levinson surround sound system, DVD, satellite radio, and a voice activated navigation system. The new V6 engine of the 2GR-FE series is characterized by increased power compared to the motors of the previous series. The maximum return is 268-277 hp depending on the year of release and processor settings. The power peak is reached at 6200 rpm, the maximum torque (336 Nm) at 4700 rpm. The engine is equipped with a dual variable valve timing system Dual VVT-i, which changes the phases of opening and closing of both the intake and exhaust valves. It is worth noting that this motor is quite technologically sophisticated, but at the same time economical and belongs to the mass series: in addition to this model, it was used on the Lexus RX 350, as well as on dozens of Toyota models. As already mentioned, the front-wheel drive of the Lexus ES350 is carried out through a six-speed automatic transmission.
The fully independent suspension provides the Lexus ES350 with high driving performance, comfortable and smooth driving, while at the same time it has sufficient rigidity to maintain the necessary handling and maneuverability when cornering. The noise level is noticeably reduced - the creators did not stint on the use of sound-absorbing materials, and a low drag coefficient (Cd = 0.28) helps to minimize noise, as well as increase fuel efficiency. Lexus ES350 comes with Stability Control (VSC) with traction control as standard. In addition - anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA). Adaptive bi-xenon headlights, parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring are also included in standard equipment. Of the restraints: child seat fasteners, seat belts with pretensioners, a full set of airbags (front, side, airbag-curtains, as well as knee airbags). Thanks to numerous changes, the Lexus ES350 has become one of the best cars of its class in the North American market. In 2010, sales began on the model in the Russian market.
