Externally and on the chassis, the Lexus GS300h accurately copies all the other cars in the GS line. But in terms of powerplant, this sedan is characterized by the presence of a hybrid drive, which is identical to many other Lexus and Toyota models. For example, IS300h or Crown. As the internal combustion engine for the GS300h, it was not V6 that was chosen, but the same 2.5-liter 2AR, which is most often used on vehicles with a transverse power unit (say, the 7th generation Camry). The Lexus GS lineup also includes the entry-level GS250 model, the all-wheel drive GS350 and the GS450h hybrid flagship, but the manufacturer made a big bet on the GS300h, hoping that this model will account for a significant share of sales. In addition, the launch of the new hybrid version in 2013 took place simultaneously with a number of improvements that are designed to increase the consumer characteristics of the model.
In the Japanese market, the car is sold in four trim levels. The basic version is equipped with alloy wheels with 225 / 50R17 tires, LED headlamps and front fog lights, the engine is started from a button, the front seats are heated and electric (with memory for the driver), the steering wheel is also heated and in a leather braid. The overall picture of magnificence is completed by dual-zone climate control with a cabin filter and an odor absorber, a multimedia system with DVD and a hard disk that supports all modern media formats. The “I Package” version offers a leather interior, a second-generation Remote Touch interface associated with a 12.3-inch monitor, and the latest Lexus Climate Concierge climate control system. The “F Sport” package is distinguished by a sports body kit, “extreme” 235 / 40R19 tires, sports seats and other features that are interesting for lovers of active driving. The most luxurious interior is offered by Version L equipment - there is even a retractable support (ottoman) for the front passenger’s legs, heated rear seats, headlight washers, and much more. As already mentioned, the Lexus GS300h is powered by a hybrid propulsion system based on a 2.5-liter 2AR-FSE engine. In this case, it is powered by a combined injection (both in the intake manifold and in the combustion chambers) as part of the updated D-4S fuel supply system. This gasoline engine develops a power of 133 kW / 181hp. (DIN) at 6000 rpm and 221 Nm of torque at 4200-5400 rpm. The electrical efficiency of the hybrid unit is 105 kW / 143 hp. (DIN). As a result, the overall performance of the Lexus GS300h can be compared with vehicles with a gasoline V6 volume of 3.0 liters or more. At the same time, the declared average fuel consumption fits into 4.3-4.7 l / 100 km - and this, in turn, is much more economical than diesel engines.

Built on the upgraded Toyota New N platform, the Lexus GS300h has a fully independent suspension (double wishbones in front and multi-link at the rear) that provides increased maneuverability and improved rideability, a long wheelbase (2850 mm) and optional AVS adaptive suspension also contribute to the latter. The car is distinguished by an exceptionally high workmanship, the gaps between the panels are minimal, due to this, as well as the body structure and numerous aerodynamic elements, it was possible to reduce the drag coefficient Cd of this model to 0.26. The increased stiffness of the body of the Lexus GS contributes not only to a more sensitive and accurate steering response, but also to safety. The car received powerful brakes, ventilated discs front and rear, with finely tuned ABS, complemented by an electronic brake control system ECB. Overall, the Lexus GS300h shows a very high level of security. The standard equipment package includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracking, a blind spot overview, a back-up assistance system for reverse parking, and many other functions responsible for proactive hazard detection, as well as adaptive head light (I-AFS), 10 pillows, pretensioner belts and pedestrian protection system. According to the manufacturer, the owners of the Lexus GS300h are guaranteed a fairly low cost of ownership, not only due to tax benefits and fuel economy, but also low operating costs. For example, Toyota says that the starter and alternator are designed for the entire life of the car, and instead of a timing belt drive, an unattended chain drive is used. Also reduced wear on brakes and tires, which provides additional savings. At the time sales began in the domestic Japanese market, the GS300h in the most affordable package was 5.8 million yen.
