On January 11, 2009, at the Detroit Auto Show, Lexus introduced a new premium sedan with a hybrid powerplant - the front-wheel drive Lexus HS 250h. This luxury car became the first “pure” hybrid in the world in its class and went on sale in the Japanese market in the summer of 2009. HS250h was created on the third-generation Avensis platform. The car body is designed with excellent aerodynamics (drag coefficient equal to 0.27) and, as a result, low fuel consumption, reduce noise from the wind and to create a spacious cabin. The name of the model should be understood as follows: HS is a “harmonious sedan”, the letter “h” traditionally means the presence of a hybrid installation, and the numbers 250 show that this model is comparable in performance to cars equipped with traditional ICEs with a volume of 2 , 5 liters. Both the outside and the inside of the HS250h are completely original - from design to materials, the selection of individual ones is determined, including for environmental reasons. For example, interior trim and trunk for 30% consists of the so-called bioplastics or recycled products, and on a plant basis. At the same time, the HS250h is very well packaged. The interior is crammed with all kinds of amenities. This is the second car that uses the Remote Touch Commander, designed to control the multimedia installation and the on-board computer. The system screen retracts into the front panel. By default, the car is equipped with an intelligent entry and start system, climate control, as well as a rich power package, including power windows, side mirrors and front seats. Traditionally, the HS250h in the domestic market is presented in several trim levels, among which the luxurious and fully functional “Version L” with a leather interior, as well as the sporty version “Version S” deserve special interest.

The HS250h is equipped with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle gasoline engine (like the Toyota Prius). The unit is part of a proprietary hybrid system, the maximum power of which is 189 hp. The transmission of the HS 250h is continuously variable, electronically controlled. It also provides increased efficiency. As a result, fuel consumption is comparable to some small model. In the Japanese test mode, 10-15 (mixed cycle) HS250h can travel up to 23 km per 1 liter of gasoline (4.35 liters per 100 km). According to the new fuel consumption measurement standard JC08, developed by the Ministry of Transport of Japan, the model shows a slightly less optimistic result - 19.8 km / l (5.05 l per 100 km). But still, this is a great example of profitability.

The suspension of the Lexus HS250h is no different from the Avensis. The front MacPherson type provides excellent responsiveness in a rectilinear movement, the rear suspension with double wishbones guarantees high maneuverability when cornering and at the same time, thanks to its compactness, has increased the size of the luggage compartment. The steering system uses an electric power steering (EPS) to improve reactions, and in addition, unlike hydraulic systems, it does not take power from the engine, which also contributes to efficiency. Disc brakes on all wheels (front - ventilated).

The HS250h includes 10 airbags as well as active front head restraints. Lexus HS is equipped as standard with Stability Control (VSC), anti-lock brakes, a descent assist system, and other advanced safety features. There are five cameras that can “look around the corner” and detect obstacles, adaptive cruise control, a marking tracking system and other equipment.

The HS250h became the fourth hybrid model in the Lexus lineup and ranked between the IS and ES series. In 2012, Lexus stopped selling the HS250h sedan in the US market due to low demand. However, in Japan this hybrid is still sold, and quite successfully, moreover, the automaker not only prepared a restyled version of the model (2013), but also introduces various improvements every next year. Not surprisingly, the majority of used HS250hs on the Russian secondary market are right-hand drive cars.
