The lengthened version of the Lexus LS460L (XF40 series) is the first model of the flagship luxury sedan with a long wheelbase of 3.09 m, while the standard Lexus LS460 sedan has a base of 2.97 m. The extra distance was entirely used to increase comfort and increased legroom for rear passengers. As befits a luxurious and respectable car, Lexus LS460L has excellent sound insulation. Inside, there is a “kingdom” of wood, leather, and high-quality plastic. Separately, you can highlight the magnificent Mark Levinson Reference Surround audio system (optional) - it includes 19 speakers that provide 450W sound. For the first time in this class of vehicles, Multi-zone Automatic Climate Control, which uses infrared sensors to focus on the human body temperature, is used and selects the necessary settings to maintain the required climate. Moreover, it can be different for each seat in the car, and the ceiling infrared sensor of the system monitors the body temperature of the passengers of the second row seats and allows you to adjust the airflow, if, for example, they got into the car from the cold or from the heat. On the Russian market, the Lexus LS460L is presented in the basic configuration Premium and the top-end Exclusive (the latter in 5-seater and 4-seater versions). As standard, it is equipped with 235/50 R18 tires, bi-xenon headlights with washers, front and rear fog lights. Side mirrors with turn signal repeaters are equipped with electric drive and heating. The doors are with closers and the trunk is electrically operated. Naturally, a car of this level cannot be imagined without an electric sunroof, electric seats and a steering column (with position memory). Steering wheel - with heating and control buttons for various vehicle systems. In the Exclusive package, the right rear seat is equipped with a relaxation system with multifunctional massage, while in the four-seater version, the rear seats are separated by a fixed center console trimmed with natural wood and leather, in addition, a small pull-out table is provided, and a 9-inch ceiling LCD monitor is used for entertainment. In the five-seat version of Exclusive 5, the rear monitor takes up space in the console between the front seats along with the climate control system.

 Under the hood of the LS460L, the same engine is installed as in the version with a standard wheelbase - a V-shaped 8-cylinder 32-valve engine with a 4.6 liter Dual VVT-i system. At 6400 rpm, it develops a power of 370 hp. A heavier sedan with a long base is inferior in dynamics to the usual version, but not much, because the specific power indicators here are already good - less than 6 kilograms of weight per horsepower. The car is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. The TORSEN type C compact limited slip differential, which has been developed for three years for the flagship of the model range - Lexus LS 600h - distributes torque between the axles. All Lexus LS versions use electronic control systems. The VGRS system is an adaptive power steering that changes not only the force, but also the steering ratio depending on speed. Another clear advantage is the Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDIM) system. The electronic transmission control system controls the position of the accelerator pedal, and also provides a linear characteristic of the developed power and smooth gear shifting. In addition to VGRS and VDIM, the AVS adaptive suspension, which automatically changes the air suspension settings, helps to cope with the machine. There are a huge number of airbags in the car: front and rear side, full-size curtain-type airbags and, of course, two-stage front airbags, as well as active head restraints. In a four-seater saloon with an ottoman, for the first time in the rear seat, another airbag is installed, it is located in the front of the seat (under the knees) and reduces the likelihood of the passenger slipping off the seat. In addition to a wide range of standard active systems (ABS, VSC, TRC, etc.), there were some “trifles” like a system for automatically switching high beams to low beam, automatic parking brake activation (Brake hold) and tire pressure monitoring. In 2007, the car was recognized as the best on the planet, and in general the fourth generation turned out to be so successful that over the years of production the car went through two restyling - in 2009 and 2012. As a result of the latter, the Lexus LS exterior has received a brand new brand design, the key elements of which are the spindle-shaped radiator grille, L-shaped daytime running lights and brake lights. All exterior lighting of the car is on LEDs. There are small innovations in the technical part, the interior is improved. The version with a long base is quite popular among buyers - being used, this real luxury limousine is not much more expensive than a “short” sedan, but it offers a significantly higher level of comfort and safety.
