In November 2013, at the Tokyo Motor Show, Lexus officially unveiled a prototype of the new model - the RC Series Coupe. The base of its body is assembled from three models: the front section is borrowed from the GS sedan, the middle section from the ISC convertible coupe, and the rear from the IS sedan. The car was planned for release in two versions: RC350 with a gasoline 3.5-liter V6 and RC300h with a hybrid power plant based on a 2.5-liter engine. Sales of these models began in 2014, and in 2015 Lexus RC was equipped with a two-liter engine with direct injection and turbocharging. The model was called RC200t and took an initial position in the line. According to the manufacturer, the chassis of the new RC 200t is extremely stiff, provides minimal roll in corners and excellent "obedience" of the car. In the Japanese market, this modification went on sale in October 2015 and, in addition to the standard version, it is offered in “F Sport” and “Version L” trim levels.
 Of the features of the basic equipment of the RC200t, LED headlights, side lights (with daylight function), and front fog lights can be noted. Intelligent car access system uses electronic key cards. The leather steering wheel is equipped with gearshift paddles. Front seats - electrically adjustable (with driver’s memory) and heated. For convenient access to the trunk and the placement of long loads, the rear seatbacks fold in a 60:40 relationship. For storage of small items, various containers and niches, cup holders, a central tray located between the rear seats are offered (recall that the landing scheme is 2 + 2 here). The instrument panel is optitron, with a tachometer and a 4.2 "TFT display. The central place in the front panel is occupied by the central 7-inch display of the multimedia system. In the F Sport and Version L trim levels, the seat upholstery is made of semi-aniline leather, the front seats are equipped heating and ventilation. The “F Sport” package bundle is distinguished by a sports steering wheel and seats, a “F SPORT” instrument panel, reinforced suspension and other features.

 Of particular interest is the engine. The 8AR-FTS power unit is equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger, making this 2-liter engine highly responsive and deliver superior performance. An innovative valve synchronization algorithm allows the engine to switch between Otto and Atkinson cycles, providing additional fuel savings - the average consumption is 7.2 l / 100 km. The maximum engine power is 245 liters. with. (at 5800 rpm), and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (4400 rpm). The RC 200t is equipped with an 8-speed gearbox with shift paddles.

 The multi-link rear and double wishbones front suspensions combined with the aerodynamics typical of sports cars provide the Lexus RC200t with great handling. By default, the car is “shod” with tires 225 / 50R17, in the “Version L” configuration - 235 / 45R18, and for the “F SPORT” different-sized tires were used: 235 / 40R19 at the front and 265 / 35R19 at the rear. Brakes - ventilated disc, but vary in size. In the standard - 334 mm front and 310 mm rear, but the “F SPORT” front reinforced with a diameter of 356 mm. The Drive Mode Select system gives the driver a choice of several settings, where SPORT S + mode is used for maximum engine and transmission performance.

 By default, the car is equipped with eight airbags (two front, openable in 2 stages, front knee, front side and curtain airbags), all belts with pretensioners, ISOFIX mounts are available. Of the systems for improving visibility there are: adaptive light, auto-dimming mirrors, rain sensor. The standard equipment also includes the VDIM dynamics management system (corrects the operation of the brakes, the complex of directional stability and traction control), tire pressure monitoring. In options: pre-emergency safety system with a radar, monitoring of “blind spots”, an assistant when leaving the parking lot in reverse, a lane control system.

 Even being the initial model in the lineup, the RC200t coupe has all the advantages of an RC family of cars (sports characteristics, a luxurious interior), but at the same time it is highly economical. As usual, in the domestic market, the car is offered with a choice - the standard version, adapted for lovers of active driving, “F Sport” or luxurious “Version L”.
