In 1997, sales of the sixth generation Mazda Capella began. In this generation, the release of wagons was again established. For them, a separate modified GW platform was proposed. Release of the station wagon for the Japanese automobile market started in 1997 and continued until 2002, when it was decided to stop production of all Mazda Capella modifications, replacing it in the Japanese market with the more modern Mazda Atenza (right-hand drive analogue of the Mazda 6 sold in Europe).
