Sedan
A characteristic feature of the fourth-generation Mirage is the elegant, "rounded" exterior design using elliptical shapes - a style that was fashionable in those years on the American market. This change in concept was partly dictated by the goal of increasing foreign sales, particularly in the United States, and showed its relevance amid the effects of the collapse of the economic bubble. In this generation, Mirage has greatly improved its performance. He acquired a multi-link rear suspension, and in 1992 under the hood appeared a 1.6 DOHC MIVEC engine with 175 hp.
In 1994, the car experienced a slight restyling, in the same period there was a transition to lower costs - in order not to frighten off buyers at a high price, the sedan was deprived of some options. The same thing happened with export modifications, and in the domestic market, for example, there were no well-equipped versions like VIE Limited, which the car was famous for at the start of sales of this generation. The most expensive Royal equipment after restyling retained the main set of expensive options like an electric driver’s seat, climate control with an LCD display, etc., but also lost a part of them: traction control, cruise control and CD player.

The following engine types were installed on the car: 1.3-liter inline 4-cylinder SOHC, 1.5-liter SOHC MVV series, which is economical in terms of fuel consumption, as well as 1.5- and 1.6-liter DOHC engines . Mirage was produced in front-wheel or all-wheel drive version. However, four-wheel drive models cannot be classified as purely sports cars. Since 1992, a 1.6-liter V-shaped 6-cylinder engine, which is considered the smallest V6 engine in the world, has been installed on the Mirage sedan. His appearance attracted the attention of specialists and in many ways changed their ideas. The most powerful was the Cyborg R modification, equipped with a 1.6-liter DOHC MIVEC engine with a capacity of 175 liters. with. and the MIVEC system. In this version, the sedan was not difficult to accelerate to "hundreds" in about 8 seconds. Installed on the sedan and diesel engines - 1.8 - and 2.0-liter.

In the fourth generation, the Mitsubishi Mirage is equipped with independent front suspension (suspension strut type MacPherson strut). The rear suspension, which received a multi-link design, became independent. In sports versions of the sedan, the chassis had the appropriate settings, rear disc brakes were installed instead of drum brakes, 195 / 60R14 tires. If we talk about the dimensions, the Mirage sedan has the following body dimensions: length 4290 mm, width 1680 mm, height 1365 mm. The distance between the axles is 2500 mm. Interior dimensions: 1805 x 1415 x 1145 mm. Trunk volume 370 liters.

The body of the Mirage 1991-1995 is designed to meet more stringent safety standards. There are stiffening amplifiers in the doors, programmed deformation zones are optimized for more efficient absorption of impact energy. In some modifications, an anti-lock braking system was standardly installed, in addition, the manufacturer offered a driver's airbag as additional equipment.

According to many fans, the peak for the Mirage was the third generation, but the fourth model in a row was conceived and created at a time when Japanese automakers were not stingy with the budget. However, as already mentioned, since 1994 there has been a transition to lower costs, which has affected the in-cabin equipment. Owners highly appreciate the car for compactness, maneuverability, handling. They complain about rather complicated carburetor engines and very demanding oil quality highly accelerated units, expensive spare parts for cars of those years, and low clearance.
