Pajero Mini and Pajero Junior can be compared with “kittens”, if you remember that the name of their big brother Pajero comes from the name of a wild cat that lives in the mountains of South America. Pajero Junior - the third link in the Pajero series - was born in 1995, a little later than its fellow Mini, released in 1994. The silhouette of the car was inherited from the “baby” Pajero Mini, but due to the wide wings that accommodate larger wheels on the original alloy wheels, other bumpers, headlights and a radiator grille, the Junior looks somewhat more solid. This design of the Junior short body gives it a very “lively”, more “adult” look. And the varying color of the body, fenders and bumper creates a youth image.
Unlike the Pajero Mini, the Junior SUV is not too rich in trim levels. Roughly speaking, there were only two main ones (in addition to special versions): ZR-I and ZR-II. The first is the simplest, having only the most necessary attributes of a station wagon: a rear door wiper, folding in parts of the back of the rear seat. Many cars did not even have a central lock, power steering, power accessories, air conditioning - however, all this was present in a more expensive version, which, among other things, was able to boast even “wood-like” trim, an additional wing mirror, fog lights. In models of special editions, the car is equipped with a variety of accessories, making it more convenient for outdoor activities. In 1997, a modification was added that has a double sunroof and seats, which are height-adjustable and can be removed. However, it should be noted that the popularity of Junior was not so high and the car was not produced for long - only until 1998.

Unlike the Pajero Mini with its “tiny” 600 cc engines, the Junior has an in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve SOHC 4A31 engine with a capacity of 1.1 liters and a capacity of 80 liters. with. However, the fuel consumption in mixed mode in the version on the “automatic” is 7.6 liters “per hundred”, which is not so little. Still affects the presence of only a 3-speed version of the automatic transmission. On a 5-step “mechanics” the baby’s appetite is more modest - 6.9 liters. At the same time, the fuel tank is designed for only 35 liters - this should be taken into account when choosing somewhere in nature away from the city.

Again, unlike the Mini, a significant part of which used a single-drive, the more dimensional and heavy Junior was only available in versions with all-wheel drive. At the same time, the car also uses the Easy Select 4WD transmission with a switchable front axle and a demultiplier, which allows you to operate the car as an SUV and at the same time makes it pleasant to use in urban conditions, when you can do only with rear-wheel drive. 4WD Easy Select is a system that allows you to easily change the rear-wheel drive to four-wheel drive with the lever and vice versa, provided that the vehicle speed is below 80 km / h. As for the suspension, the front is rack-mount and the rear is multi-link 5-link.

In terms of safety, there are almost no differences between relatives - in the basic version, the Pajero Junior has a driver's airbag, three-point belts, and child seat mounts. From electronic systems - only ABS. The all-metal body of the Pajero Junior prefabricated structure includes a frame and a stiffening frame.
