Sedan
The third generation of the Nissan Cima appeared in 1996. In September 1998, the facelift of the model took place, in which the radiator grille and bumper were modified, as well as the trunk lid with an enlarged niche for the license plate. New color options are proposed. Safety has also been improved: for the first time, a Japanese car uses active-type head restraints, and the rear center seat is equipped with a three-point belt. As for the mechanical part, it remained unchanged - a 4.1-liter V8 (rear or all-wheel drive) and a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, both with 270 hp.
As before, the Nissan Cima 1998-2000 executive sedan demonstrates splendor in every detail. The interior is trimmed with velor or leather, complemented by all kinds of lighting, extensive inserts with imitation wood. It has a multi-function steering wheel, Multi AV system with a 7-inch widescreen LCD screen, 6-disc CD changer. There are all kinds of electric drives, in the front passenger seat they are duplicated on the back on the right - for the convenience of the driver and rear passenger, and in the most expensive trim levels for rear passengers there is a control panel built into the central armrest. All materials are of high quality. The Nissan Cima range continues to be divided into two main lines of performance: the luxurious Limited Series and the Grand Touring Series, which have a more sporty appearance. Like the previous generation model, the car was equipped with an 8-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders and with a working volume of 4.1 and 3 liters, respectively. These are the units VH41DE and VQ30DET. The first one was obtained from the first generation Infiniti Q45 VH45DE engine - the cylinder-piston group was changed, the working volume was reduced from 4.5 to 4.1 liters. The second engine is well known in other sedans of the company - Cedric / Gloria / Leopard. Both power units are quite reliable, have a good resource and are relatively unpretentious. Both develop a maximum of 270 hp. and accelerate the sedan from standstill to 100 km / h in about 7-8.5 seconds. depending on version.

The chassis of the Nissan Cima Y33 retains the previously adopted suspension design - a rack-mount type on the front axle and multi-link rear. Brake system - with disk mechanisms (front ventilated). As an option, a limited slip differential and an active suspension controlled by electronics were installed. After restyling, the production of all-wheel drive models was continued - as before, they were offered by the Limited series. Sedan dimensions: length 4970 mm, width 1820 mm, height 1445-1460 mm. Wheelbase 2830 mm. Interior dimensions are: 2025 x 1515 x 1175 mm (L x W x H). Trunk volume - 420 liters.

In the basic configuration, the 1998-2002 Nissan Cima Y33 is equipped with front and side airbags, door stiffeners (side impact panel), anti-lock braking system and the optional anti-slip system (standard on more expensive models), three-point belts for all seats and active head restraints better protecting when hitting rear. VIP trim levels have side rear airbags. Version 41LV-Z, which was released in July 1999, occupies a special position in the model range - Nissan Cima for the first time for Japanese cars is equipped with an automatic system for maintaining the distance between vehicles (a millimeter-range radar sensor is used) with automatic braking function. Like its predecessor, the third-generation Nissan Cima did not get in our market the popularity in the luxury sedan category that it deserves, noticeably losing to the Toyota Crown Majesta and Celsior. Meanwhile, this car (and its American brother Infiniti Q45) in many respects, at least, turned out to be no worse than world grandees, including German models. This is a well-controlled, reliable and well-equipped sedan with a spacious comfortable cabin. Disadvantages are the inevitable features of the class - large dimensions, tax and insurance, high fuel consumption.
