Hatchback
Less than three years after the start of sales of the first generation Nissan Cube, the model went through restyling. During the modernization, the appearance of the popular two-volume was first refreshed. The shape of the front and rear bumpers has changed, the size of the headlights has increased, the taillights have become a little different. Cosmetic changes have affected the interior. These and other improvements have further raised interest in the model, which is part of the group of so-called "high" passenger station wagons. In this group, among all its competitors with a height of more than 1600 mm, Cube achieved the highest results. The Nissan Cube interior is perceived as quite spacious, but this is not surprising with such body proportions. Engines are only 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engines. Some time after updating the car, the Cube was equipped with an 85-horsepower engine, but in May 2001, under the hood of the "alpha" series, a new modernized unit operating on high-octane gasoline appeared, its capacity was increased to 101 liters. with.
Inside, the Nissan Cube boasts an enviable amount of interior space. A decent supply of space in the shoulders and over the head, and even the rear passengers are not too cramped. The seats are set high, with a typical bus landing - this gives excellent visibility in all directions. And due to the fact that the sides and the back door are almost vertical, the layout of the cabin and trunk can be considered almost perfect. The gear lever is located here on the steering column. The ability to move and unfold the seats, in turn, allows for a free transfer from chair to chair without leaving the cabin (“walk through”). A large number of places for storing small items are striking. For the basic trim levels, three gradations are still provided: F (air conditioning, adjustable steering column), S (power accessories and central locking), X (alloy wheels, leather steering wheel, etc.). Still, a special position in the model line is occupied by the Rider series (“Horseman") with styling from Autech Japan. The retro style reflected in the Cube SQUARE version (a huge radiator grill, round headlights, etc.) is also noteworthy, which brings to mind the classic models. The Coleman version was launched in a limited edition from a well-known brand of travel products - here is a full range of functions: xenon headlights, anti-theft system, heated mirrors, wood inserts, sunroof and exclusive water-repellent mats in the cabin and luggage compartment, as well as a special mesh, allowing you to fill the trunk without fear that items will fall out when you open the door. The first generation Nissan Cube (Z10) in the second phase of production (2000-2002) was equipped with two engines with a working volume of 1.3 liters (1348 cc). The basic 85-horsepower engine assumed three modifications: two in front-wheel drive (4-speed automatic or CVT) and one all-wheel drive (CVT). Moreover, the variator was offered both ordinary and with the Hyper CVT-M6 system with a 6-speed manual mode. A more powerful engine with a return of 101 hp provided only front-wheel performance. A special pride of the creators of the Nissan Cube is a modest fuel consumption. On one liter of gasoline, a car can run from 14.6 to 17 kilometers, which is equivalent to a consumption of 5.8-6.8 l / 100 km. A good power reserve guarantees a decent fuel tank capacity of 42 liters.

Like the second-generation Nissan March (K11) hatchback, the Nissan Cube (Z10) has independent front and rear semi-independent suspensions, but the all-wheel drive version also has independent rear suspension. The two-wheel drive is equipped with a gear-rack type steering with hydraulic booster, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The dimensions of the body are as follows: length - 3750 mm, width - 1610 mm, height - 1625 mm. The wheelbase has the same size as March, 2360 mm. A minimum turning radius of 4.8-5 m allows the Nissan Cube to easily deploy in a narrow space. The car is equipped with tires 165 / 70R13 or 175 / 60R14. Ground clearance - 135-145 mm. Nissan Cube has a roomy luggage compartment, which makes it convenient for both everyday trips and leisure. The incorporated transformation capabilities allow not only folding the back seat in parts, but also moving the back of the front passenger seat to a horizontal position (for transporting long items).

The restyled Nissan Cube of the first generation (2000-2002) is well prepared in terms of safety. The standard equipment of all trim levels now includes not only two front airbags (driver and front passenger), but also optional side airbags. The car also has an anti-lock brake system with an electronic power distributor and emergency brake assist (EBD + BAS), seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, child seat fastenings. The Nissan Cube body has programmed deformation zones and door stiffeners.

The first generation Nissan Cube is generally considered one of the best compact models with increased capacity. The Cube successfully competed with such machines as the Suzuki Wagon R, MMC Dingo, etc. In addition to its compact size, it has a decent ground clearance and a quite comfortable suspension, although a high body imposes its limitations on reactions. The machine is distinguished by high quality production, engine reliability. However, there are also disadvantages. The bodies are prone to corrosion, there are problems with the reliability of the variator.
