The compact third-generation Nissan Cube wagon continues to follow the trends begun by its predecessors: again we see the original body shape and roomy interior. It has become even more spacious due to the lengthening of the wheelbase by 100 mm, an increase in the total length and height (by 160 and 25 mm, respectively). Without losing its "cubicity", the body of the model has become more streamlined. As before, the gaze rests on the asymmetric tailgate and on the amusing design of the front end, reminiscent of the muzzle of some creature. The atmosphere of comfort in the new Nissan Cube is brought to unprecedented heights - especially curved surfaces that cause associations with a jacuzzi contribute to this. The seats are equipped with thick pillows resembling home upholstered furniture, the interior trim imitates ripples on the water, and the sliding sunroof is made in the style of traditional paper doors in Japanese houses. For the first time since the model appeared in 1998, the manufacturer made an attempt to conquer international markets - for some time the car was sold in the USA and Canada (where the Cube was offered with a more powerful engine, 1.8 liter), as well as in Europe (engines with a working volume of 1.5 and 1.6 l). The right-hand drive option for the domestic market received a 1.5-liter HR15DE engine, familiar from the previous generation of the model. All-wheel drive modifications are also offered for the Japanese. There is only one transmission - a variator.
Already in the base of the third generation Nissan Cube will offer power accessories, a remote key, adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel height, air conditioning, and in options - climate control, bi-xenon light, navigation and more. As usual, special attention is paid to the Rider sports series, which offer an exclusive interior and exterior, a sports exhaust system, a roof spoiler and other features. In 2009, in honor of the millionth draw based on the 15X and 15X FOUR versions, the special versions of the “M Selection” were released - they are equipped with a keyless entry and start system, an immobilizer, and a remote engine start function. Later, the model acquired Bluetooth and iPod interfaces, a hands-free system, multimedia with a USB port. Numerous limited series are also not forgotten, having their own exterior design features and improved interior trim - like S Indigo, Rorbu Selection, Kodawari Selection, etc. - as well as anniversary series, such as the 80th Special Color Limited. The car received a number of partial improvements in 2012 and 2016. The concept “My cube” was proposed with the latest customers - a wide range of options for individualizing the car is made possible by the choice of 11 available body colors (including two-tone schemes), five color combinations of seat upholstery and two steering wheel color options.  As the power unit for the third-generation Nissan Cube is the 1.5-liter HR15DE engine. The in-line, 4-cylinder DOHC-type unit delivers a maximum power of 109 hp. (at 6000 rpm) and a torque of 148 Nm (at 4400 rpm). Along with a change in the engine management system and CVT continuously variable transmission (other options are no longer provided for), new measures have been taken to improve fuel efficiency. On average, a Nissan Cube can drive 15.6-20 km on one liter of gasoline, that is, spending only 5-6.4 liters per 100 km. The capacious fuel tank (45 liters) guarantees a large power reserve at one gas station. It is worth noting that in 2009, experts at AUTECH released a tuning version of the Nissan Cube Rider High Performance Spec. The car is designed on the basis of the factory equipment Rider. The on-board computer was reflashed in order to increase engine power. HR15DE became stronger by 7 hp, slightly increased torque. The suspension has undergone minor reconfiguration and refinement. Of the “beauties”, a sports muffler and bumpers were installed on the car.

The compact station wagon Nissan Cube (Z12) has an independent front and rear semi-independent suspension. It is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering with electric power, disc front brakes and rear drum brakes. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (e-4WD system, driving the rear wheels in motion with an electric motor). The dimensions of the body are as follows: length - 3890 mm, width - 1695 mm, height - 1650-1690 mm. The wheelbase has a size of 2530 mm. A minimum turning radius of 4.6 m allows the Nissan Cube to easily deploy in a narrow space. Nissan Cube has a roomy luggage compartment and an easily transformed interior, which makes it convenient for both everyday trips and leisure. The minimum boot volume is 322 liters, the maximum volume with the rear seats folded is increased to 1645 liters.

The standard equipment of all third-generation Nissan Cube trim levels included two front airbags (side airbags are optional), an anti-lock brake system with an electronic brake force distributor and brake assist, seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, child seat fasteners. The body of the Nissan Cube has the necessary zones of programmed deformation, stiffeners in the doors, guaranteeing a high level of protection for the driver and passengers in a collision. Since 2009, a new option is available on front-wheel drive models - the engine braking function when approaching turns or descents (based on information received by the Carwings satellite navigator). Later, the VDC dynamics control system (a standard since 2014) was added to the number of options.
