In 1997, the second-generation Nissan March was restyled. Numerous changes have been made to the original design of the machine, which pushed his "old age" for a few more years. As a result, there was no separate radiator grill (it is now combined with the hood), the design of the front bumper and headlights changed, the design of the combined brake lights, door moldings and lining on the bumpers changed. In addition to modifications made to special orders - such as, for example, the Bolero - there are options in the body of a convertible and the March Box station wagon, which has earned a separate position in the model line. March is still equipped with 1.0 and 1.3 liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC engines, but with a slight power adjustment in 1999 from the original 58 to 60 “forces” and the advent of a new 1.3-liter engine 85 l with., which replaced the former 79-strong unit. At the same time, in a modification with a 1.3 liter engine and a CVT in the March lineup, a version with all-wheel drive appeared. The hatchback is still available in 3- and 5-door versions and offers many configuration options.
The interior of the Nissan March K11 is noticeably updated - this can be seen from the completely new front panel of the cabin, on which a small upper tray for small items was left, but a separate visor of the instrument cluster still attracts the eye with its originality. The shape and arrangement of the central air ducts in the center console has changed, the climate panel and the place for the radio have changed places, and the audio system can now be 2DIN in size. The composition of the trim levels has improved. Now all cars are equipped with air conditioning and power steering as standard, but in the basic configuration, the rear wiper is still an option, and the rear seatback is solid. More expensive versions of the hatchback will offer alloy wheels, power windows and a central lock with remote door openings, a CD player or a DVD system with navigation (optional since December 2000), a folding back sofa and other equipment. Of great interest are machines of the "unique class" with an original design. For example, Polka, in which March looks much more expressive than a standard hatchback, due to other headlights, a bumper, a radiator grill. Or cars of the Bolero and Rumba series (retro or classic sports style). As usual, the highest rating was given to cars whose interior trim uses natural materials - wood and leather.

For the updated second-generation Nissan March March, the same engines were initially offered as before restyling. This is a 1.0-liter CG10DE with 58 hp. (79 Nm) and the 1.3-liter CG13DE with 79 hp. (109 Nm). Both 4-cylinder, 16-valve, type DOHC. Since the end of 1999, the power of the CG10DE engine has been increased to 60 “forces” (84 Nm), and the new 1.3-liter CGA3DE engine due to modernization and additional ones with “cubes” (in comparison with the CG13DE, the increase in working volume was 74 cc. ) produces a maximum of 85 hp (120 Nm). Depending on the modification, March can be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, 4-speed automatic transmission or CVT. As before, it remains a very economical car - according to the accepted fuel consumption estimate in Japan, the hatchback is capable of driving 14.8 to 19.4 kilometers on one liter of gasoline, which is 5.1-6.75 l / 100 km A good power reserve guarantees a decent fuel tank capacity of 42 liters.

The restyled Nissan March of the second generation (K11) 1997-2002 has an independent front suspension and rear semi-independent, but if the car has four-wheel drive, then in this case the rear suspension is independent. The car is equipped with steering gear type steering with power steering, disc front brakes and drum rear. The hatchback was offered in five- and three-door versions and has compact body dimensions: length - 3720 mm, width - 1585 mm, height - 1425 mm. Wheelbase - 2360 mm. The minimum turning radius is 4.6 m. The car can be equipped with R12 or R13 rims. Ground clearance height - 150 mm. The luggage compartment of the Nissan March is small, only 206 liters, but it can be increased to 960 liters due to the folding back of the back seat (one-piece in the basic configuration).

After the upgrade, the second-generation Nissan March's safety level has improved. The standard equipment now includes two airbags (driver and front passenger), anti-lock brakes, seat belts with a mechanism for attaching child seats and front belts with pretensioners. At the same time, in the crash tests of Euro NCAP in 1997, the car (Micra K11) received only two stars.

The second generation Nissan March has made great strides in the market. According to many experts, this was one of the best compact models of its time. The car has received numerous awards both in Japan and abroad. In addition, Nissan March (K11) is distinguished by high quality production, engine reliability. However, there are also disadvantages. The bodies are prone to corrosion, there are problems with the reliability of the variator, the suspension is stiff, and the 1.0-liter engine is rather weak. Those who wish to purchase a more practical car should take a closer look at the March Box station wagon. And for fans of a ride with the breeze as part of the restyling, the March convertible was offered. In 2001, the third generation model (K12) entered the market.
Nissan March is one of the best models in the compact car series, on the basis of which numerous modifications have been created. March in the back of a convertible was released in August 1997 (as part of the second generation of the model, after the restyling held in May). It has an automatically opening roof with a glass window. The salon is designed for four seats. The presence of a separate luggage compartment is, of course, a convenient and functional stylistic solution that makes the standard Nissan March model particularly attractive. In comparison with convertibles of the same class of other manufacturers, the design of this model is well thought out to the smallest detail. The colors of the case are selected in Italian motifs: red, silver, green - all with a metallic effect; They blend wonderfully with brown soft top material. The machine is equipped with special equipment that is not available in other models. Of the two engines offered at that time for March, the convertible got a more powerful 1.3-liter 79-horsepower gasoline unit.  Nissan March Cabriolet is based on a three-door version of the hatchback. For the convertible, by default, good equipment is provided. There is an armrest between the seats, a tilt-adjustable steering column, height adjustment for the driver's seat cushion, a tachometer, electric mirrors, air conditioning and a central locking with electric windows, a radio tape recorder (CD player) of size 2DIN. Bright upholstery is designed to further revitalize the atmosphere of the cabin. A feature of the configuration also became the original ignition keys. Numerous places for storing small items (for example, a tray at the top of the front panel of the passenger compartment, a spacious glove compartment, a niche under the steering column, pockets in the front doors, etc.) are designed to make the car even more convenient. The soft roof drive is switched on using the button near the steering column.

Under the hood of the Nissan March Convertible is a 1.3-liter CG13DE 4-cylinder in-line engine with a DOHC valve type, working in conjunction with a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT. The engine produces a maximum power of 79 horsepower (at 6,000 rpm) and a maximum torque of 106 Nm (at 4,000 rpm). Like the rest of the March family, the open-body version is considered to be a very economical car - according to the Japan fuel consumption estimate, the March Cabriolet is able to drive 15.2 to 17 kilometers on one liter of gasoline, which, in terms of the usual indicators, is 5 , 9-6.6 l / 100 km. A good power reserve guarantees a decent fuel tank capacity of 42 liters.

Convertible Nissan March (K11) has an independent front suspension (suspension struts such as McPherson) and a rear semi-independent. The drive of the car is only front. It is equipped with gear-rack steering, disc front brakes and rear drum brakes. The open-body version has compact dimensions: length - 3720 mm, width - 1585 mm, height - 1430 mm. Wheelbase - 2360 mm. The minimum turning radius is 4.6 m. The Nissan March Cabriolet is equipped with 155 / 70R13 tires on alloy wheels. Ground clearance height - 150 mm. The trunk is small, while it is reduced compared to the hatchback (part of the place “eats” the roof mechanism). But there is also a practical solution - the back of the rear seat has a horizontally reclining part, which opens a decent-sized window in the partition, which is convenient for transporting long items.

The standard equipment of Nissan March Cabriolet 1997-1998 includes two airbags (driver and front passenger), an anti-lock brake system, seat belts with a mechanism for attaching child seats and front belts with pretensioners. The open body is reinforced with additional stiffeners, and the central pillars pass into a powerful transverse arc, passing over the entire central part of the passenger compartment and protecting passengers when the car is turned over.

The second generation Nissan March has made great strides in the market. According to many experts, this is one of the best compact models of its time, and the cabriolet is a unique offer. Nissan March (K11) is distinguished by high quality production, engine reliability. However, there are also disadvantages. The bodies are prone to corrosion, there are problems with the reliability of the variator, the suspension is stiff. In 2001, the third generation March / Micra came to the market, the model range of which in 2005 was replenished with an even more comfortable and interesting version with an open body (Micra C + C), these machines were imported to Japan from the UK (since 2007).
