The second generation Serena has changed compared to the previous model in the back of the car, sometimes called the 1.5BOX (where the engine is located under the driver’s seat), and has become a minivan with a passenger compartment equipped with three rows of seats. The first generation Serena appeared in 1993. Compared with the commercial version of the model, it has improved driving characteristics, higher cabin comfort, increased internal and luggage space. Thanks to all of the above, this minivan has become a family car with 8 seats. The event was that the designers, without wasting time, immediately began to use a sliding door on both sides in the design of the body.
Serena is available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. Initially, this car was equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine of the SR series with a volume of 2 liters, but after a number of changes that took place at the end of 2001, they began to use the in-line 4-cylinder gasoline engine of the new generation of the QR series. On the 2-liter front-wheel drive modification, as before, the CVT transmission is installed, however, on the all-wheel drive version of the model and on the new 2.5-liter configuration, a 4-speed automatic gearbox is used. All engines comply with Japanese standards regarding maximum exhaust emissions.

Restyling of 2001 touched the design of the exterior and design of the instrument panel, thanks to these changes, the class of the car has increased.
