Nissan Skyline - one of the "oldest" Japanese cars, leading its historical countdown since 1957. The seventh generation Skyline in the R31 series has changed the image of a sports car, shifting the emphasis towards convenience and luxury. Straight body lines visually make this model bigger. The design of the car used a lot of chrome parts; such a design in Japan was called "mite-kure" ("Look!"). This series was originally produced in sedan-style bodies, including a 4-door hardtop, which has become a prominent representative of the generation. The next year, the model range was replenished with a 5-door station wagon and a GTS coupe - a 2-door car, the sporty appearance of which gives it a resemblance to the sixth generation of the model, nicknamed the “iron mask”. In this generation, many of the latest achievements of science and technology were embodied, as a result of which Skyline received the image of a high-tech car. With such a rich variety of bodies, the car was also offered with a fairly wide range of equipment options. Of course, the basic modification could not boast of serious equipment: there is only a radio, a vertically adjustable steering column, power steering. But in the maximum equipment the car was supposed to win the buyer with its outstanding “stuffing” - full power accessories, velor interior, electric sunroof, cruise control and automatic air conditioning, expensive cassette player, 215 / 60R15 tires. The Nissan Skyline station wagon has a comfortable, roomy interior with a huge trunk and numerous pleasant little things that make life easier, including powerful roof rails; he could remain a popular wagon in the future, but in the next generation Skyline with this type of body was no longer produced. The two-door coupe is distinguished by a sporty image with an emphasized aero bodykit and thanks to new engines it was called upon to rehabilitate the sporty image of the model. In the model range of Nissan Skyline, belonging to the class above the average, a wide variety of engines are presented: from 1.8-liter 4-cylinder to 2-liter 6-cylinder; In addition, there is a 2.8 liter diesel turbine engine. The most powerful is considered a 2-liter twin cam 24V turbocharged engine, which relied on expensive and chic equipment. Models with this motor, despite the relatively high cost, were very widespread at that time. In addition, the engines of this series (RB) with two upper camshafts are distinguished by red upper covers (“Red Top”) and became an example of new technical solutions, thanks to which power was reached up to 210 hp.

The Nissan Skyline front suspension uses spring struts with a coil spring. The rear suspension, depending on the modification, is a rigid axle or, on more expensive comfortable versions, a double wishbone with a coil spring. Due to the improved rear suspension, the sports version feels confident on the road. Despite exclusively rear-wheel drive, individual modifications can be equipped with an LSD differential, which reduces slippage and acceleration time of the car.

The main safety element of Skyline R31, corresponding to the level of those times, is three-point belts. The rear-view mirrors, which on many versions of the previous generation were located on the wings (in Japan it was fashionable until the end of the 80s), now mainly occupied a position on the doors, which also contributed to safety - nevertheless, without leaving the cabin, it is easier adjust their position. So in terms of safety, seventh-generation cars are fully consistent with the then approach to this important indicator.

Today, the seventh generation of Skyline for the most part is represented by seriously worn copies and finding a car in good condition is a difficult task, and the cost of this option may not be as low as it can be expected, judging by the years of release. In some cases, cars of this series are of great interest as an object for investment in restoration. Why this bright and stylish classic car is very worthy.
