The ninth generation Nissan Skyline (R33 series bodywork) was released in 1993. It embodies the Grand Touring Car concept with excellent driving performance. Unlike the previous generation (R32), where close attention was paid to movement to the detriment of the rear seat space, the new Skyline combines both excellent driving performance and the comfort of a business class sedan. As a result of new design solutions, the wheelbase of the car grew by more than 100 mm, the dimensions of the body increased, and the interior space expanded accordingly. Thanks to the improved suspension, the car remains stable even when driving on high-speed roads, making a long-distance trip quick and enjoyable.
The next generation Nissan Skyline was offered exclusively under the flag of the GTS modification, adopted in previous series. This actually meant the transition of the car to a new status - and, above all, the abandonment of simple versions. The cost of the basic configuration began with a mark of nearly 2 million yen. As standard, the car is equipped with fully disc brakes (front ventilated), electric windows and mirrors, central locking, climate control system. An optional rear wiper, limited slip differential (LSD) was optionally offered. In expensive Skyline trim levels, including the GTS25t type M coupe, the idea of a mass sports car has been successfully implemented, the list of equipment of which includes fog lights, an electric sunroof, front and rear spoilers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a CD changer, casting on 16 inches, ventilated disc brakes of all wheels, etc. d.

Starting from this generation, 4-cylinder power units were no longer placed on the car - this is quite natural, firstly, given the increased weight of the car, which required more powerful engines, and only sixes met this rule. Secondly, as already mentioned, the image of Skyline itself has changed - the car was no longer presented with other engines. The power of the base engine of 2.0 liters (RB20E, SOHC) was brought to 130 liters. with. Initial 2.5-liter engine - up to 190 hp (RB25DE, DOHC). A 200-horsepower engine was already installed on the GTS25 type S modification, but for the Skyline GTS25t type M, a 250-horse engine in combination with mechanics and 245 “forces” with a 4-speed automatic transmission relied.

Multi-link front and rear independent pendants have been upgraded. On some of the versions, a new Super HICAS full-wheel steering electronic system was installed, replacing the old hydraulic HICAS that was used in previous generations. This system was first tested on the Skyline R32 GTR. In addition, individual machines could be equipped with an active differential LSD (Active LSD). All-wheel drive modifications were still produced - from November 1993 and only with a 190-horsepower engine, but both on the “automatic” and the “mechanics”. The four-wheel drive transmission is similar to that used in the GTR - with a torque distribution system between the axles of the ATTESA E-TS, which includes the limited slip differential LSD and anti-lock system. The car remains rear-wheel drive, as well as other modifications, however, when a slip occurs, the front axle is connected, receiving up to 50% of the torque.

In the ninth generation of Skyline, the presence of two airbags - the driver and front passenger, becomes a necessary guarantee of safety, although to reduce the cost of the car, the simplest modifications offered this equipment only as an option, as well as the anti-lock brake system. Only by 1996, all of the above became an accessory even of the basic configuration. The standard for all versions was three-point belts, stiffeners in the doors, child seat fastenings, an additional brake light.

The ninth generation Nissan Skyline has become better in many ways: comfort, roominess, power, handling, etc. The car received a “rounded” design in the spirit of the 90s, but it is by no means “washed out” - its elegant, toned look is not outdated today. In the used car market, this generation is represented wider than the previous one, and more recent years mean fewer problems with operation. Skyline is very popular with fans of speed and drive, especially among young people. Of greatest interest are cars in the coupe and with 2.5-liter engines, which, in fact, are designed for fast driving.
