Restyling of the second generation Subaru Impreza made a noticeable aesthetic change in the appearance of the car - round headlights are a thing of the past and are replaced by more elongated ones. Given that the exterior of the sports versions of the Impreza was also criticized, they tried to give the car more aggressiveness. As a result, the design of the front end was thoroughly redesigned (new bumper, grille, hood, fog lights). The rear part of the body (lights and bumper) has also been updated. The most productive model WRX STI, thanks to the efforts of the stylists, has become even more like a real rally car. Under the hood is a 265-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2003 WRX STI sedan differs from the usual "hot" version of the WRX with an enlarged air intake on the hood, "gold" discs and Brembo braking system, special side skirts and a powerful rear wing. Selected exterior details are embellished with STI emblems (front grille, bumper caps, boot lid). Inside the car there were seats of a modified design, a smaller three-spoke steering wheel. The release of special versions continued. In Europe, for example, the Swiss motorsport company Sauber has unveiled a Sauber Edition of 50 cars, each with white 10-spoke wheels, leather interior, Sauber badges and a number plate signed by Peter Sauber. There is also the WRX STI Solberg edition 2003 to commemorate the victory of Petter Solberg at the WRC World Championship (limited to 200 copies worldwide, each car with a commemorative plaque on the dashboard). This version is equipped with a DCCD center differential controlled from the driver's seat, has a black Black Line interior (black center console and seats) and other features. The 2003 Impreza WRX STI for Europe was fitted as standard with a 1994cc four-cylinder turbo engine named EJ207 with Active Valve Control System (AVCS) and an electronically controlled turbocharger. The maximum power of the unit is 265 hp. The torque is 343 Nm. The powertrain works in combination with a sporty 6-speed manual transmission with similar gear ratios. The sedan accelerates to a maximum speed of 244 km / h, and overcomes the first "hundred" in 5.5 seconds. But even more interesting is the version of the WRX STi WR1 (2004) for the UK (right-hand drive) - this is one of the most powerful Impreza, with a 320-horsepower engine (torque 420 Nm), which accelerated the sedan to "hundreds" in 4.5 seconds.

The chassis of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI uses inverted shock absorbers (a technical solution from the world of motorsport). In the current generation, the Impreza has received a stiffer body shell, measures have been taken to further reduce weight, while the hood of all WRXs is made of light alloy. But the special versions of the WRX STI, essentially rally cars, feature even more drastic weight-loss measures. In addition, these vehicles have a modified chassis and steering. The car is standardly equipped with wide low-profile tires - 225/45 R17, which guarantee increased traction. The car is equipped with a powerful braking system with four-piston fixed calipers on the front axle and two-piston fixed calipers on the rear. The WRX STI also features limited slip differentials on both axles.

Safety technologies for the Impreza WRX STI 2002-2005 include: sports ABS with electronic brake force distribution, electronic immobilizer, driver / passenger front airbags (side airbags are optional), three-point seat belts for all passengers, Isofix child seat mounts. The vehicle has a robust body with comprehensive impact protection. Full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) guarantees optimum traction and increased safety when driving on any road surface.

The second generation Subaru Impreza is one of the most interesting models on the market with a distinctly sporty character, especially when it comes to the WRX STI version. This car has received special recognition among the public, professing an active driving style. When purchasing this car, you need to come to terms with such disadvantages as stiff suspension, low ground clearance, high consumption and tax, expensive maintenance.
