When developing the next generation of Subaru Impreza, the creators tried to make the car attractive to a wider range of buyers, so it was decided to change the body shape from a station wagon to a hatchback. The updated car has many advantages: a spacious interior, a well-thought-out design of instruments, a spacious luggage compartment, the maximum size of which reaches 1216 liters, a lightweight body and an excellent suspension. But only all this fades into the background, since the main differences between the Subaru Impreza are still the symmetrical all-wheel drive system (Symmetrical AWD) and the horizontally opposed engine (BOXER). Here, Subaru's developers have remained faithful to the company's traditional technology.
Russian buyers were given the opportunity to choose the all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza with a 1.5- or 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine. At the same time, Subaru specialists developed three configurations for the Russian market (1.5R, 2.0R and 2.0R Sport). The choice of the type of transmission and the list of additional options remained with the buyer. In the basic version, the car's equipment includes an audio system with Audyssey MultEQ multi-zone sound stabilization, an information display, an additional 12-volt outlet in the center console drawer, heated front seats, an immobilizer and much more. Top-of-the-line Sport features a leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear lever and parking brake, a 10-speaker SRS WOW audio system, xenon headlights with re-entry washers, a roof spoiler and muffler trim, fog lights, and 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Subaru Impreza engines are equipped with an active valve control system (AVCS). Power units are presented in 1.5-liter and 2-liter versions. In the first case, the engine has a power of 107 hp, in the second, the driver gets 150 "forces" at his disposal. The most "frisky", of course, is the two-liter modification on the "mechanics" - the car is able to accelerate to a speed of 100 km / h in 9.6 seconds, while leaving behind it an acceptable fuel consumption - 8.4 liters in mixed mode. Thanks to the horizontally opposed design of the Subaru Boxer engines, all the main components are located in the same plane, and unlike other all-wheel drive vehicles, Subaru gets a natural neutral balance and close to ideal weight distribution.

The front suspension of the Subaru Impreza is based on MacPherson struts. Rear - with double wishbones. As a transmission, either a 5-speed "mechanics" is used (in this case, the all-wheel drive system is controlled by a central differential based on a self-locking viscous coupling), or a 4-speed "automatic" (works in tandem with an all-wheel drive system with active torque distribution). A distinctive feature of the manual transmission in the Subaru Impreza is the presence of a system that prevents rollback when starting uphill, as well as a dual-band system with low and high speed modes, which provides unsurpassed driving characteristics on roads with poor maneuverability and allows you to get off smoothly when towing. The SPORTSHIFT Automatic Transmission with Electronically Controlled Throttle (ETC) can be set to sport mode with "manual" gear shifting.

The car is very well prepared in terms of safety. Frontal airbags are normally present here (side and curtain airbags are optional); child seat mountings; stiffeners in the doors; Anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake force distribution (EBD), brake assist system (BAS). Active head restraints and dynamic stability control are available as an option for the Subaru Impreza with a 2.0-liter engine. Also, when creating a car, for the sake of safety, they decided to abandon frameless doors. In general, the car has earned very high marks in the crash test results. Subaru Impreza is one of the best cars in the 1.5-2 liter class. In terms of aggregate power and dynamic parameters, it surpasses many competitors. Still, Subaru's extensive experience in creating sports cars matters. The popularity of this undoubtedly interesting model is held back only by the expected (and often unreasonable) difficulties with maintenance and the specificity of the engines. For those who do not profess conservatism, it will not be difficult to choose a car to their liking - fortunately, this allows you to make a wide offer on the used car market.
