In the next, already the fourth generation, the popular Impreza family is represented by 4- and 5-door body versions (GJ / GP). In Japan, the model went on sale in December 2011. Externally, cars for the domestic market differ from export ones in some nuances, for example, a developed aerodynamic body kit and headlight washers. The engines are exactly the same as are the gearboxes. However, the "mechanics" is adjacent only to the 1.6-liter unit, the two-liter engine comes exclusively with a variator. The cabin has a different multimedia and navigation unit, more color options for the seat upholstery. As in the previous generation, in the Japanese market, Subaru offers a wide variety of modifications - both a sedan and a hatchback with both power plants are not only all-wheel drive, but also front-wheel drive. The new car retains almost the same dimensions as the previous generation, but is lighter and more economical. The longer wheelbase provides maximum interior space for comfortable seating. The hatchback luggage compartment repeats that of the XV crossover - with the rear seat back folded down, a step is formed. The trunk volume in the standard position is small: 380 liters versus 460 liters for the sedan, but if you fold the backrests of the rear row, you can free up a maximum of 1,483 liters of cargo space. The bar of interior decoration has also risen: the interior of the Impreza uses high-quality and pleasant to the touch upholstery materials, leather and metal-like inserts. The Impreza equipment will not be surprised by such options as electric seats, rain sensor, light sensor, engine start from a button, remote key, multi-steering wheel.

The engine range includes 1.6 and 2.0 liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder DOHC engines. Almost all versions, except for the basic “1. 6i ", are equipped with a start-stop system to eliminate fuel consumption at idle. New generation engines, improved aerodynamic characteristics, significant weight reduction (the lightest modification weighs 1250 kg), again, the use of a start-stop system - all this has significantly improved the environmental performance of the Subaru Impreza. A car equipped with a variator is capable of driving up to 20 km on one liter of fuel. That being said, the model surpasses the 2015 fuel efficiency standards even in the all-wheel drive version.

The suspension of the fourth generation cars has not changed conceptually and provides excellent handling and a comfortable ride. Front - suspension struts, rear - double wishbones. At the same time, the rigidity of the rear subframe has been increased, and changes have been made to improve driving stability not only in corners, but also on straight sections. Fitted for improved fuel efficiency, the electric power steering delivers a natural feel. The lower engine location led to a decrease in ground clearance - it is 145 mm. However, for urban conditions it is quite acceptable. Plus, an all-wheel-drive Impreza isn't an SUV. Here, all-wheel drive is needed solely in order to provide excellent grip even on slippery surfaces and for confident movement at high speeds. In the new generation, the level of safety equipment has been significantly improved, mainly due to electronic systems: for example, electronic stability control (ESP) and traction control (TCS) are included in the basic equipment. Well, of course, the familiar ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake force distribution), BAS (auxiliary braking system) have long become the standard. The car is also equipped with front airbags. In addition, it can be equipped with a lane departure warning system. One of the differences between cars for the domestic market is the presence of the EyeSight system, which is actually an intelligent active cruise control system that uses stereoscopic cameras, with the help of which the electronics better “notice” the danger and stop the car. The cult of the Subaru Impreza has been won in many respects by the unsurpassed prestige of sports versions, but even the usual mass modifications of this model are, if not too high, but always in stable demand. So it is not surprising that even very fresh Impreza in a slightly second-hand (read - almost new) condition from the Land of the Rising Sun easily find their buyers in the domestic market. Due to the novelty of the generation, among the general offer, both modifications with a base engine, quite favorable in terms of price, and more powerful two-liter versions are almost equally represented.
