In September 2002, Suzuki made another series of changes to the second-generation Suzuki Wagon R. The improvements are quite extensive. They include a modernized design of the rear suspension and rear seats, a redesigned dashboard and various kinds of improvements in configurations. Naturally, the appearance was slightly updated to distinguish the Wagon R from the cars of the previous series: in front of the car received new headlights, hood and grille. The manufacturer parted with the outdated F6A engine and now offers a mini-car only with the K6A engine (DOHC12), but in the previous power indicators: atmospheric 54 hp and turbo with a return of 60 and 64 hp
The interior of the Suzuki Wagon R 2002-2003 has changed the design of the steering wheel, which houses the Suzuki brand logo. The configuration of the elements on the center console, where the audio system and the air conditioning control unit are located, has completely changed. The latter has been modernized - now even with a conventional air conditioner, the switching of air circulation modes has been changed from mechanical to electric. In the new "tidy" appeared empty tank indicator. The interior color scheme has been changed, new upholstery materials have appeared. The rear seat has received an important innovation in the form of a new sliding mechanism (105 mm). Standard equipment was a CD player with AM / FM radio. In 2003, a special series “RR Version V” appeared, which was distinguished by standard gas discharge headlights, an intelligent entry system, etc. 4WD cars were equipped with such an important function as seat heating.

After the next modernization, the second-generation Suzuki Wagon R was equipped only with K6A series engines. The basic model of the 660 cc three-cylinder engine (12-valve DOHC with variable valve timing system VVT) had a capacity of 54 liters. with. Turbo models developed 60 horsepower. in economical modifications of the unit with a low-speed turbocharger (M-turbo) and 64 hp in the most powerful version, which was installed on the model of the RR-series. The engine was aggregated with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the modification, from 16.8 to 22.5 kilometers of run on one liter of gasoline (4.4-5.9 l / 100 km) are declared. The front of the Suzuki Wagon R has an independent suspension design (MacPherson struts). Behind - dependent. Recall that the wheelbase in this generation has grown an additional 25 mm and amounted to 2360 mm. Body dimensions are now: length 3395 mm, width 1475 mm. This is 100 mm longer than the first generation car, 88 mm wider, with approximately the same height remaining - 1640-1685 mm. Despite the fact that the external dimensions increased, the minimum turning radius decreased by 0.4 meters, amounting to 4.2 meters. This fact not once again demonstrates the high degree of practicality of the Wagon R. As before, transforming the seats, you can adapt the Wagon R to perform a variety of tasks. But these features have become even more flexible, because after the second restyling the rear seats (50:50 with separate folding function) received a new adjustment mechanism. As a result, the length of the passenger compartment has increased - it is 1765 mm for machines from 2002-2003 instead of the previous 1685 mm.  All Suzuki Wagon Rs from 2002-2003 received double front airbags (for driver and passenger), front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters as a safety standard. An anti-lock braking system and an assisted braking system were available as an option.

In the second generation, the Suzuki Wagon R maintains its leading position in the Japanese “mini-car” segment. Its monthly sales exceed 30,000 units. Assessing the advantages of the model, buyers note its compactness, high driving position and visibility, large mirrors, thoughtful transformation. Disadvantages - poor insulation, low-power base engine, stiffer suspension. The generational change of the Wagon R took place in September 2003.
