The third generation Avensis debuted in 2008, when the new model was shown at the Paris Motor Show, shortly before sales began in 2009. And only in the second half of 2011 the car began to be imported to Japan. Such a delay was caused by the specifics of demand and the subsequent structural reorganization of the Toyota model range, which affected many popular models in those years. As a result, there was a place exclusively for the Avensis station wagon and in a limited supply variant - with one engine and transmission. The Avensis trunk has a length of 1.1 m, and with the rear seats folded, it increases to 1.92 m. The dimensions of the rear opening are 1550 mm in width and 765 in height. The distance between the backs of the front and rear seats is 936 mm, an excellent supply of space is also provided for the legs of the rear passengers. In 2011, the car was offered in a single configuration - “Xi”, while the Avensis Wagon, imported to Japan from England, was noticeably richer in equipment than the basic configuration in other markets. The equipment includes climate control, xenon headlights, rear and front spoilers, a steering wheel with a leather braid and adjustable tilt and reach, 16-inch alloy wheels. In the interior, to enhance the feeling of quality, there is a decorative “titanium” finish on the multifunction steering wheel, center console and upholstery elements. In the trunk there are additional drawers for storing things, a lot of convenient boxes and throughout the cabin. In 2012, the car was modernized: changes affected the external optics, bumpers, seat upholstery, decorative panels, in addition, an even more chic “Li” equipment was proposed, already with 17-inch wheels, front fog lights. Light leather upholstery, center console trim under an expensive wood grade. In addition - there are electric seats, including adjustment of lumbar support, with memory settings. Of the functions that have already become commonplace - seat heating, electric steering column, cruise control, button start, remote key and intelligent access system.

And yet, the key difference between the current Avensis Wagon and its predecessor is not in the design that has become more aggressive, and not in size (difference in millimeters), not in an improved interior. And in the new line of engines, which replaced the engines of the AZ series! More precisely, for the Japanese market we are talking about one engine - a two-liter 3ZR-FAE, which embodied the latest development of Toyota. This engine is just perfect for a family wagon, not without sportiness - it has a maximum power of 112 kW (152 hp) at 6200 rpm, maximum torque is 196 Nm (20 kg-m) at 4000 rpm. The direct injection, which has proven itself to be ambiguous, at Avensis preferred the CVVL Valvematic system of continuously variable valve lift, which makes the throttle unnecessary. When complicating the timing mechanism, it should provide 5-10% fuel economy and make the engine about as powerful. In the domestic market, the station wagon is offered only with a variator and front-wheel drive. The Avensis Wagon suspension is completely independent (suspension struts in the front and double wishbones in the rear) with front and rear stabilizers. Settings - rather for the sake of rigidity, but with the preservation of high energy efficiency and comfort when driving at high speeds. Both front and rear brakes - disc (front ventilated), provide high braking performance. In the basic equipment version, the car is equipped with an electronic parking brake. With a wheelbase of 2700 mm, which, by the way, remains unchanged from the previous generation, the minimum turning radius is 5.4 meters.

Avensis is still very good in terms of security. Already "in the base" - seven airbags, including a pillow for the knees; active head restraints, excluding injuries of the cervical vertebrae when hitting the rear. Adaptive cruise control and an adaptive front lighting system are also not available. The VSC system is able to control not only the brakes and traction, but also the steering gear. There is a control system for road markings. The new body perfectly holds multidirectional impacts, as shown by successful crash tests.

In general, the third Avensis meets all the principles that were laid down in the idea of developing a new generation: to bring a premium level to the senses; establish a spacious living space; provide comfortable and confident movement on a winding road, in an intense road environment and on slopes. As for the right-hand drive Avensis from Japan, in recent years they are not too common and rather serve as an alternative complement to the general offer of this popular European model in the class of two-liter engines and improved trim levels.
