For almost a decade, from 1991 to 2001, Toyota Camry was divided into two lines - a series of so-called “narrow” bodies (V30 and V40) were intended only for the domestic Japanese market, and for the external ones, since 1991, Camrys were manufactured in a “wide” body . At first it was the XV10 series, which was soon replaced by the next "international" generation of the XV20, produced from 1996 to 2001. This generation, namely a variant of the Toyota Camry model, which sold well in the American and Australian markets, was offered in Japan under the name Toyota Camry Gracia. For some time (from 1996 to 1998) this car was produced in parallel with the purely Japanese Toyota Camry in the back of the V40. But after the latter left the scene, the Camry Gracia sedan, having gotten rid of its middle name, took over the brand’s baton in the domestic market and since 1999 it has simply become known as Toyota Camry. The station wagon retained its former name.
Toyota Camry Gracia is an elegant car whose swiftness in design is emphasized by the pronounced slope of the body line from the lowered front to the rear lights. As usual, cars for the domestic market were produced with a wide variety of configurations and even in the basic versions they had everything they needed: full power accessories, climate control, adjustable steering column, central locking with remote control, fog lights, disc brakes on all wheels. For a separate surcharge, it was possible to equip the car with rails, a sunroof, electric and heated seats, a leather interior. In August 1999, there were minor innovations that affected the optics, front grille, bumper design, and some interior elements.

Only two engines were installed on the Camry Gracia, both petrol. Inline four 5S-FE with a volume of 2.2 liters and a power of 140 hp and a 2.5-liter V-shaped 2MZ-FE six-cylinder engine with 200 hp Both engines demonstrate high reliability, except that the "four" is somewhat easier to maintain. On the other hand, a more powerful engine relied on richer trim levels. And the difference in the supply of “strength” compared to the base engine is quite large, so the Camry Gracia with 2MZ-FE is much more interesting in dynamics. Both modifications came with a 4-speed "automatic".

The Toyota Camry Gracia suspension, which is characterized by a high level of comfort, has retained the type of construction of previous generations: independent, spring, MacPherson type front and rear. Separate modifications were equipped with the AVS electronic system, which provides four adjustments of the shock absorber stiffness level; it also reduces body roll in corners, pecks during acceleration or braking. The all-wheel drive Camry Gracia used the not-so-honest 4WD type - V-Flex Time: with rear wheels connected via viscous coupling. The all-wheel drive station wagon was offered with both engines, but the sedan only with 2.2-liter engines. Toyota Camry Gracia takes a serious approach to safety. In addition to energy-absorbing body elements that compensate for frontal and rear impacts, a system of energy-absorbing zones has been introduced to protect the car from side impacts. Each pillar is reinforced along the entire length from the junction with the roof, thus providing additional rigidity. The car is equipped by default with airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags. The ABS system also comes as a standard option, and since 1999 all cars are equipped with an auxiliary braking system. An anti-slip system is available as an option.

Of the minuses of Toyota Camry Gracia can be called low clearance, a modest engine power reserve of 2.2. On the plus side, one can add simplicity of design, reliability of Toyota units and high resistance of the body to corrosion. Spacious, comfortable interior and excellent suspension work provide a very high level of comfort. Given the high prevalence of the model and the presence of a left-hand drive analogue, there are no special problems with the search for spare parts in terms of repair.
