Sedan
The beginning of the release of Chaser (as well as Mark II and Cresta) in the bodies of the 90th series in the domestic market was 1992. Thanks to the period of the “soap bubble” economy, the quality of Japanese cars has become better, and this has also affected Chaser: consumer properties and the level of performance of this generation of the model are higher than the previous ones. All changes that took place in those years became basic. In the Tourer modification models, special attention was paid to ride quality. It was planned that alloy wheels on cars of this modification will distinguish it from cars of other versions. Thanks to its outstanding performance from a sister group of 90s fifth-generation bodies, the Chaser is best suited for sports driving.
The fifth generation Chaser is represented by trim levels XL, Raffine, Avante, Tourer S, Tourer V and, as before, top-end configuration with the maximum configuration of equipment Avante G. As for the sports versions of the Tourer, they were intended to replace the turbo modifications of the previous generation. The more extreme Tourer V is a direct follower of the GT TwinTurbo tradition of the previous series. If we talk about equipment, then in the basic XL configuration, the buyer received a car with front fog lights, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, electric mirrors and windows, automatic air conditioning, AM / FM radio, optionally a front spoiler, a rear wiper and alloy wheels. The upper configurations exceed all expectations in terms of comfort: here climate control, telescopic steering wheel adjustment, leather steering wheel sheathing, wood trim, leather seats, remote control key, electric front seats, 15 "or 16" alloy wheels.

As for engines, under the hood of the Tourer V is the same 2.5-liter 280-horsepower 1JZ-GTE, which was inherited from the 80th series (six-cylinder, in-line, DOHC, 2 turbines). And in the milder version of the Tourer S - 180-strong atmospheric 1JZ-GE. These two engines of the JZ series were supplemented by another representative of the new generation power units - a three-liter 2JZ-GE with a capacity of 200 hp, which replaced the 7M-GE engine. The 1G-FE engine is the only remaining two-liter. Still in service 4-cylinder engines: gasoline 4S-FE, the power of which is raised to 120 hp as well as diesel 2L-TE (97 h.p.). Transmission - mechanical or automatic. The Chaser Tourer V with manual transmission is equipped with a limited slip differential.

Significant changes have occurred in the suspension. If the rear double-lever, time-tested, remains the same, then the front - a new, double-lever on forged wishbones. At the same time, the chassis of sports modifications is appropriately configured for comfortable driving and control at high speeds. The wheelbase has increased from 2680 mm to 2730 mm. The minimum turning radius in this case has grown very slightly - up to 5.1 meters (for all-wheel drive - 5.3 m). Despite the increase in size of this generation, the weight of the car decreased by an average of 100 kg. There are options with all-wheel drive - in trim levels Avante Four and Avante G Four. It uses a FullTime 4WD drive with an asymmetrical center differential. The standard equipment of the simplest configuration included three-point seat belts for the rear seats, stiffeners in the doors. ABS (anti-lock braking system) and traction control, as well as a driver's airbag - options or standard in more expensive versions. Fully disc brakes (front ventilated) provide excellent braking, and permanent all-wheel drive in individual versions - safer driving in difficult road conditions. Chaser features of this generation have become an attractive design, a high level of basic configurations, a very reliable chassis, coupled with comfortable behavior on the road, and in general the quality characteristics of the car are respected to this day. The offer is quite diverse, which makes it easy to find a suitable option with a minimum of additional costs or, on the contrary, an object for sports tuning and the corresponding investment of effort and resources in this.
