Sedan
In 1989, Toyota restyled the Corolla E90 sedan. The shape of the bumpers has changed, the body due to this has become a little longer. The car has updated front and rear optics, significant changes have occurred in the technical stuffing. The permanent all-wheel drive system now uses a viscous clutch to lock the center differential (only on cars with “mechanics”), while a hydromechanical clutch was used before restyling. All engines, with the exception of the youngest (1.3 L), are now equipped with an EFI electronic fuel injection system. In addition to the 1.8-liter diesel engine, a 2.0-liter unit appeared.
Toyota Corolla 1990 model year has become a little more luxurious. This is especially noticeable in the new configuration of the restyled sedan SE Limited G, which was equipped with a more informative and stylish “long” dashboard, a central armrest with integrated compartments, more comfortable front seats, a sunroof, full power accessories and an automatic air conditioning system. External details include a chrome-plated double exhaust pipe, 175 / 65R14 tires on alloy wheels. The manufacturer supplemented this version of the sedan with a new 105-horsepower 5A-FHE engine, at the same time making it quite affordable. The top class is still showing the 1.6 GT model, equipped with an upgraded 4A-GE unit and some sporting attributes like a three-spoke steering wheel, improved sports seats, etc. d.

In the restyled Toyota Corolla E90 lineup, new engines appeared: 5A-FHE High-Mecha Twin Cam with a volume of 1.5 liters (105 hp), a two-liter diesel 2C-III (2C-L) with a capacity of 73 hp, which were equipped with all-wheel drive versions only in combination with "mechanics". The 1.6-liter 4A-GE, familiar from previous GT versions, was reconfigured to gasoline with a higher octane rating, its maximum power was increased by 20 hp. - up to 140 forces. The remaining units remained the same. The basic carburetor 2E (1.3 L) produces 73 hp, injector 5A-FE (1.5 l) and 4A-FE (1.6 l) - 94 and 100 hp Due to the fact that the latter was installed on all-wheel drive models, the "all-wheel drive" Corolla with this engine was notable for quite good playfulness. The 1.8-liter 1C-III diesel engine with a capacity of 67 hp remained in service. As a transmission, the manufacturer offered Corolla Sedan 4- and 5-speed manual or 4-band “automatic” depending on the modification. The suspension of the Toyota Corolla E90 sedan includes an independent MacPherson system (struts with coil spring). An exception was all-wheel drive modifications, in which the rear suspension is dependent. The presence of a permanent all-wheel drive system with a center differential in some versions made Corolla more independent of weather or road conditions. The sports model 1.6 GT was distinguished by modified nodes of the chassis, fully disc brakes, standard 14-inch wheels. The rest had front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, a gear-rack type steering, in the basic versions the power steering was an option. After restyling, the Corolla sedan stretched a little in length - up to 4235 mm. Its width and height have not changed: 1655 mm and 1365 mm. Wheelbase 2430 mm. Turning radius 4.9 m. Interior dimensions: 1785 x 1360 x 1150 (L x W x H). Trunk volume of a sedan is measured 440 liters. In top configurations, the rear sofa has a folding back in parts. During the development of the sixth generation of the Corolla, the power frame, the cross-sectional shape of each element and the surfaces of the external panels were optimized - all this made it possible to create a body of increased rigidity with minimal vibration and noise. Corolla of this generation began to be primed with compositions deposited by electrodeposition, for better corrosion resistance, due to which the machines of this series retained the integrity and strength of the body longer. The standard for the Corolla E90 1989-1991 was three-point front seat belts with height adjustment, three waist belts in the rear seats. It was possible to install special child seats. In expensive trim levels of the sedan (GT, SE), an anti-lock braking system was installed.

Corolla of this generation enjoyed unprecedented success in the Japanese "soap bubble". It is noteworthy that in 1990, 300,008 brand new Corollas were sold in dealerships throughout Japan. This record could be broken only by Toyota Prius - in 2010. The main advantage of the Corolla E90 owners call reliability, maintainability, low cost of maintenance. But over the years it is already more difficult to find spare parts, the body begins to rot, carburetor models and diesel engines are considered problematic in operation.
