The Toyota Funcargo multipurpose minivan, created on the basis of the Toyota Vitz model, appeared in 1999. Three years later, it was updated. Changes in the exterior include a new front end, which received an expressive mesh grille; new drop-shaped headlights also improved the appearance of the car, as well as modified bumpers on which protective pads appeared; rear now equipped with new combination lights. Not without alterations in the interior. The units have also been modernized in order to achieve better efficiency and reduce emissions. The engines themselves are the same - four-cylinder DOHC with a working volume of 1.3 and 1.5 liters.
Inside the Toyota Funcargo, after restyling, changes include an upgraded center console, an updated dashboard design, a new steering wheel, changed color schemes and upholstery fabric options. G is equipped with automatic air conditioning, the steering wheel has a standard leather braid. Sports performances are distinguished by external details: body kit, alloy wheels. Full-featured publications will offer standard gas-discharge headlights, a high-quality audio system, a large sunroof, a convenient ceiling lamp that can be removed and can be used as a flashlight. It is important to note that Funcargo has a new folding seats scheme - they are more comfortable, have puffy backs and pillows, and are not removed under the floor, but doubled in a simple movement. This option is more convenient than the standard, although less practical. A truly comfortable living space, as before, is complemented by numerous clothing compartments.

The base engine for the 2002-2005 Toyota Funcargo is still the 1.3-liter 2NZ-FE engine with a variable valve timing system. Its power is now 87 hp. (at 6000 rpm) instead of 88. The 1.5-liter NZ-FE engine of the front-wheel drive model was also retuned - 109 liters. with. instead of 110. All modifications work only with a 4-band “automatic”, the lever is conveniently located on the steering column. With a 1.5-liter engine, the Funcargo is available in an all-wheel drive version (in this case, 105 hp). After restyling, the cars reached the U-LEV standard (ultra-low emission level), and in 2004 an additional modernization of the exhaust system was carried out, resulting in a reduction in emissions of 50% according to the 2005 standard. As for fuel consumption, in the 10/15 mode, the most economical 1.3-liter model consumes 5.6 liters of gasoline per 100 km (18 km / l) instead of the previous 5.8, and with a 1.5-liter engine - 6 , 3-6.9 l / 100 km instead of 6.7-7.1.

The front suspension of Toyota Funcargo is a spring strut with a coil spring, and the rear suspension is torsion bar with springs, with the exception of all-wheel drive versions, where the rear axle is a continuous axle. Compared to the Vitz, the Funcargo has a reinforced suspension, given its large mass and increased payload. The full length of the body is 3860-3880 mm, width 1660-1665 mm, height 1680-1710 mm. The turning radius is 5.1 meters. The wheelbase has a size of 2500 mm - this is a very good indicator for its class, which just provided the main advantages of the model - a spacious interior (its dimensions are 1905 x 1370 x 1290 mm), a sufficient supply of rear space, a roomy trunk. The volume of the latter can vary from 390 to 2160 liters, depending on the transformation of the passenger compartment and the vehicle equipment. The raised floor system in which the rear seats fit and the resulting perfect flat floor in the cabin is perhaps the most important feature of Funcargo, for which many people love this car. The maximum loading length reaches 178 cm, which allows you to transport fairly large items.

Of the equipment responsible for safety, Toyota Funcargo 2002-2005 relied on two airbags (driver and front passenger) and additional front side airbags, seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters on the front seats, ABS anti-lock braking system with electronic EBD power distribution and an auxiliary system braking. The body type GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment) meets the higher requirements of crash tests.

The Funcargo minivan was a great addition to the compact family built on the Toyota Vitz hatchback platform, which also includes the Platz sedan. The widespread use of this model, its "ingenious simplicity", the absence of problems with spare parts create all the conditions for the successful operation of used cars, and the wide variety of copies offered on the market - for a confident choice of your taste and price. If you do not take into account the unusual appearance, which someone can count as a minus, the real disadvantages of Funcargo include sailing, a low ground clearance, an explosive cabin and lack of sound insulation, a weak 1.3-liter engine.
