The third-generation Toyota Lite Ace Wagon minibus (M30, M40) was updated in 1988. The front part has changed - it has become more streamlined, the headlights and the design of the front bumper have also been updated. As a result, the size of the car increased slightly - the Lite Ace is now longer than 4 meters, although it still remains the “youngest” in the Ais line and has a narrower and shorter body than the Town Ace R20 / 30, which were simultaneously produced in those same years. With the update, the car added new features, such as the TEMS suspension, which became the standard on FXV models and was offered as an option for the GXL. The power of the 2C diesel engine was increased from 70 to 73 horsepower, and the 2C-T turbo engine was increased from 82 to 85 horsepower.
The passenger line Lite Ace Wagon (these cars are indicated by the letter G in the body brand) is distinguished by a high level of equipment, especially in expensive versions, like the FXV, where the standard was a transformer cabin with high-quality trim, a second row of seats with individual armrests (even the passengers had an armrest third row), a glass roof (in common people - an "aquarium"), power accessories for controlling windows and mirrors, a separate stove / air conditioning for rear passengers. In addition to good equipment, a wide range of accessories was offered, such as refrigerators, televisions or high-quality audio systems. All this made it possible to turn the minibus into an almost perfect family car for traveling, surpassing many passenger cars in terms of comfort. Lite Ace Wagon M30 / M40 is slightly inferior to the Town Ace Wagon R20 / R30 model in terms of the internal space, but the middle row here rotates 90 and 180 degrees, while the “Town” only 180. The third-generation Lite Ace Wagon engine line (M30, M40) after restyling in 1988 includes the following engines: 2C diesel engines (2.0 l, 73 hp) and its turbocharged version 2CT (82 hp), gasoline engines - carburetor 2Y-U (1.8 l, 79 hp) and 3Y-U (2.0 l, 88 hp), the younger models were equipped with a 1.5-liter 5K-U engine with a capacity of 70 h.p. In general, with proper maintenance, the listed engines are unpretentious and resourceful. The weak point of gasoline models is the carburetor. In diesel engines, due to design features, the slightest malfunctions of the cooling system can easily lead to overheating and cracking in the cylinder head. It is worth noting that the power unit on all Aces is located longitudinally above the front axle under the floor of the passenger compartment, which implies some difficulties in maintenance and repair. With a continuous beam at the rear, the front suspension is an “adult” two-link design. Some versions of the Lite Ace Wagon since 1988 have been equipped with electronic shock absorber stiffness control. The drive is carried out on back wheels. All-wheel drive models with front axle and lower gear have good cross, but the possibilities are limited by a low-hanging transfer case. Ground clearance - 160-180 mm. The minimum turning radius is 4.2 m. Although the Lite Ace Wagon is not as roomy and practical as the Lite Ace Van vans, the transformer saloon makes it easy to adapt the car to household needs.

The security approach is typical of the time when the Lite Ace Wagon of the M30, M40 generation was produced. The car has a safety design of the front panel and steering wheel, head restraints and seat belts (three-point for the front seats and waist on the rear). The cabless body layout is not effective enough from the point of view of passive safety, but in those years was considered a common thing.

The Lite Ace / Master Ace / Town Ace family was the forerunner of Toyota's large Emina family of minivans. Quality and popular! Suffice it to say that with these models the company conquered all of Asia, North America and the Pacific region. And in Russia, a whole generation has grown on the used Aces. Not surprisingly, these vans are among the largest second-hand vans on the market. Their advantages can be called reliability, endurance, spaciousness. The engines of those years are unpretentious in terms of fuel quality, generally simple and maintainable, although low-power and uneconomical. Finding a car in good technical condition will not be easy, but spare parts are more affordable than for some other Japanese counterparts in the class of the same years of manufacture.
