By the appearance on the market of the ninth generation Toyota Mark II in the X110 body, the last "real" rear-wheel drive station wagon of this model Mark II Wagon belonged to the fifth generation in the body of the X70 series. Seeing the light back in the 80s, it was released until 1997. And, hopelessly outdated, it was replaced by Toyota Mark II Qualis, which, of course, was not directly related to this classic family, since Qualis was built on the front-wheel drive Camry Gracia (SXV20) platform. However, in 2002, evaluating the rather successful fate of this wagon, Toyota decided to release a new Mark II Wagon, but on the basis of the ninth generation. So there was Toyota Mark II Wagon Blit, first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2001.
The Blit is a premium rear-wheel drive sports station wagon. And that says a lot. It is based on the latest 2780 mm rear wheel drive platform, which was used on the Mark II, Verossa, Crown, Progres and Brevis models. The appearance of the car emphasizes its sportiness. The engine cover, side skirts, slightly protruding and slightly bent up the headlights of the car, as well as the interior design, leave a strong impression. Speed and power - the main bet was made on this. Unlike the sedan, the Wagon Blit was available in “iR” -series trim levels. Most of the modifications had the most rich equipment, and in addition, a significant part - all-wheel drive. Outstanding in its power version “2.5 IR-V” with a turbocharged engine of 280 hp - this is, in fact, the level of Mark II Tourer V, a magnificent representative of the previous generation, but only a station wagon, and even in a new body. The dimension of the front chrome wheels on the low profile tires is 215 / 45R17, the rear - 225 / 45R17. The special status of this model is indicated by ventilated discs of increased diameter and huge brake calipers. The range of Mark II Wagon Blit engines is represented by several models of in-line "sixes", which have long become a characteristic feature of the family. The optimal balance between power characteristics and fuel consumption is demonstrated by a 2.5-liter 1JZ-FSE engine with a direct injection system D-4, with a capacity of 200 hp. and a torque of 250 Nm at 3800 rpm. A two-liter 1G-FE (160 forces, 200 Nm) is the basic version, quite acceptable for everyday use in normal mode. It was put on both classic and all-wheel drive modifications. Some four-wheel drive models came with a 2.5-liter 1JZ-GE rated at 196 hp. The most powerful in the line is the 280-horsepower 2.5-liter 1JZ-GTE engine for IR-V trim levels. The variable valve timing system implemented in it and a highly efficient ceramic turbine can produce a maximum torque of 378 Nm at 2400 rpm. Mark II Wagon Blit uses an independent suspension of all double-lever type wheels, new self-adjusting shock absorbers at the rear - such a suspension, tuned to match the declared character, provides truly sporty sharp control, high stability on the road and comfort. The confident dynamics of the “2.5 IR-V” version is astonishing - how fast a huge station wagon can be. The special aerodynamic shape of the body as it accelerates as if creating a downforce, providing additional stability.

The standard set of safety for the Mark II Wagon Blit was the following set: two airbags in front for the driver and passenger, ABS, EBD systems and auxiliary braking system Brake Assist; seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters, ISOFIX anchorages, door stiffeners. As an option, TCS traction control (included in expensive trim levels), electronic stability control (ESP), side airbags and curtain airbags were offered.

Any station wagon is always appreciated for the size of the cabin. And there is something to brag about. The trunk with a shelf-curtain and a regular tool box is a special chic. The dimensions of it will surely be appreciated by lovers of transporting something. So we can justifiably say that the Mark II Wagon Blit is an exclusive and to some extent unique example of a mass car with an emphasized “universal” status.
