2 generation, restyling
Hatchback
Restyling of the second generation Toyota Passo and its twin hatchback Daihatsu Boon took place in April 2014. The models received a number of cosmetic improvements that affected the exterior (front grille, bumper and headlights, rear combination lights, etc.) and partially the interior. For Toyota Passo 2014-2016, engines of 1.0 or 1.3 liters are still used, while the Daihatsu Boon has only a liter unit left. In order to increase fuel efficiency, the engine idle stop system was developed, which is equipped with a 1.0-liter unit in combination with front-wheel drive, which allowed to further reduce consumption by almost 20% - Passo is now able to drive up to 27.6 km per liter gasoline. The slightly updated interior of the car received a new version of the interior in a chic color of mocha, the seat upholstery and the dashboard trim were redesigned. Finalization of the exhaust system and improvement of the characteristics of noise insulation materials to reduce extraneous sounds in the cabin are also noted. In general, the Toyota Passo has more trim levels in this generation than the Daihatsu Boon. The special version of Hana is characterized by great external and internal grace. It is easy to identify by the original front bumper with built-in fog lights, more rounded headlights of the projector type and an oval cut-out of the radiator grille, there are differences in the interior trim, and taking into account the orientation towards women, the equipment includes more options: folding mirrors, improved protection against ultraviolet and infrared rays etc.

The base power unit for the Toyota Passo 2014-2016 is a 3-cylinder 12-valve naturally-aspirated 1KR-FE DOHC engine with a DVVT variable valve timing system - with a displacement of 1.0 liter (996 cc). cm) it has a capacity of 69 horsepower. With restyling, the engine itself was modernized (increasing the compression ratio, reducing friction, optimizing the gas distribution phases), the variator, a highly efficient generator was installed to increase the amount of energy generated during deceleration, the Stop & Start (2WD) system was improved, now it works when deceleration from a speed of 9 km / h and less. As a result, Passo with a liter engine consumes only 3.6 liters of fuel per 100 km of track, which is a record figure among gasoline-powered cars available on the Japanese market (excluding hybrids). 4WD models have reached the “fuel efficiency standards of 2015” - the declared fuel consumption has been reduced from the previous 5.2 l / 100 km to 4.8 l / 100 km. Consumption of a more powerful version with a 1NR-FE engine of 1.3 liters (95 liters. s.) has not changed and is 5.2 liters per 100 km of track. Sufficient power reserve for Toyota Passo provides a fuel tank with a volume of 38-40 liters.

The second-generation Toyota Passo / Daihatsu Boon suspension retains the familiar structural design: a combination of MacPherson struts in front and a torsion beam at the rear, while all-wheel drive cars have a rear suspension with a continuous axle beam. Power steering. The minimum turning radius remains the same 4.3 m when equipped with 13-inch tires (155 / 80R13), but if the tires are 165 / 70R14, the radius increases to 4.7 m. The external dimensions of the hatchback are 3640 x 1665 x 1535 mm ( L x W x H). Interior dimensions: 1830 x 1420 x 1280 mm. Passo / Boon has rear doors swinging open at an angle of 80 degrees, the original design of the convertible rear sofa, which when folded allows you to get a large trunk with a flat floor.  The body of the model meets the necessary requirements of passive safety to protect the driver and passengers during impacts from all sides. The equipment of Toyota Passo 2014-2016 includes anti-lock braking system ABS and EBD (brake force distribution depending on load), auxiliary braking system, front and side airbags, curtain airbags, head restraints and three-point belts of all seats, active front head restraints. To increase safety, the VSC Stability Control and TRC Traction Control have become standard on all models.

Boon / Passo is the third (if we recall that this is the second generation of cars) cooperation experience between the two companies. The first were Daihatsu Storia / Toyota Duet models, by the way, which were not very popular. The consumer saw through their descendants, the second generation inherited all the best, while it became safer, has a richer package bundle. Maneuverability, efficiency are indisputable advantages. At the same time, motors have become more demanding in operation, complaints about increased oil consumption are frequent. The downsides of the owners are called a weak steering rack, the tendency of the three-cylinder engine to vibrate, low ground clearance, and poor sound insulation.
