3 generation
(XW30) 01.2009 - 11.2011
DAA-ZVW30
3 generation
Hatchback
The third Prius, whose name in Latin literally means “go ahead,” once again demonstrates best practices, offering innovative technologies aimed at reducing the car’s fuel needs and protecting the environment. In this generation, the Prius has remained the same five-door hatchback, but due to improved aerodynamic characteristics (the drag coefficient value is reduced to 0.25) and at the same time 90% of the updated hybrid system, it provides the highest performance and economy - on one liter of gasoline it can Now drive 32.6 kilometers. Moreover, everything in it is aimed not only at reducing fuel requirements, but also at attracting third-party energy sources. For example, a solar panel built into the hatch of the new Prius converts the energy of the sun into electricity, which is later used for interior ventilation (innovative Solar Ventilation System).
Externally, the car retained the recognizable features of the previous generation and a characteristic wedge-shaped silhouette. Available modifications: base “L”, middle “S” and premium “G”. The interior of the Prius shows a high class of amenities. These are comfortable seats with high backs and excellent lateral support, well expressed even in the places of the extreme rear passengers. The console “flowing out” from the front panel, on which there is a display, climate control and transmission control joystick, as if merged into a single unit with an armrest located between the front seats, and underneath there is a large convenient tray for things. The car is equipped with a Smart Entry system and engine start from the button; multifunctional steering wheel, the pressing of the buttons of which is confirmed by the corresponding icons on the information panel. Using the projection display, speed and navigation information is displayed on the windshield, which allows the driver not to be distracted from the road. A lot of attention has been paid to the practicality of a car for transporting goods: the trunk has quite decent dimensions and volume (446 liters), and with the rear seats folded down, the distance from the back door to the back of the front seat is 1.7 m. Of course, the updated Toyota Prius powerplant deserves special attention. 1.8-liter petrol engine 2ZR-FXE with a variable valve timing system and an Atkinson cycle produces 99 “horses”. The second part of the hybrid system is an electric motor, the dimensions of which have decreased, and the power, on the contrary, has increased from 50 to 60 kW, while it is now capable of higher speeds. In addition, the engine is equipped with an electric water pump (the previous generation abandoned the drive air conditioner in favor of the electric one), thus, the Prius became the first production car without drive belts in the engine, which further increases fuel economy. The car can work in different driving modes: "Eco-Drive" - optimal fuel consumption, smoothing sharp clicks on the accelerator; Power mode for sports riding; "EV-Drive" - movement only due to electricity. Toyota Prius is equipped with a torsion rear suspension and suspension struts in front. In versions of the Touring Selection, the car has tires with dimensions 215 / 45R17 versus 195 / 65R15 as standard and a sharper suspension. The wheelbase of the car remained the same (2700 mm), but the length of the front and rear axles increased slightly, respectively, and the minimum turning radius has grown - from 5.1 meters to 5.2. The Prius can optionally be equipped with an Intelligent Parking Assist.

The third-generation Prius is equipped with an improved set of active security systems. In addition to ABS with EBD and an auxiliary braking system, as well as the electronic stability control system adopted in the previous generation, the car in some trim levels can be equipped with radar cruise control, ensuring a safe distance between vehicles. Active front seat head restraints and six airbags are standard on all trim levels. Of the additional options, a lift assistance system, a rain sensor, and a rearview mirror with auto-dimming are offered.

Right-hand drive Toyota Prius of the third generation enjoy albeit a low (still the main hit is still the second generation), but stable demand. At the same time, the prices for the right to own this modern technological car cannot be called excessively large, while cars from Japan make good competition with left-hand drive cars.
