1 generation, restyling
The release of the family of commercial station wagons Toyota Probox and Toyota Succeed started back in 2002, but only in the fall of 2014 did they receive the first major update (before that, the manufacturer managed with only minor changes). The differences between Probox and Succeed this time are minimized: in fact, they differ only in emblems. The car has a completely new front end (bumper, optics, hood, wings), which also has become much more “friendly” to pedestrians in the event of a collision. The brand emblem has moved from the grille to the hood. There are much fewer changes behind - we changed the brake lights and put the rear view camera on some trim levels (with the image displayed on the salon rear-view mirror or on the navigation display). Probox as usual offers the most complete power line and is equipped with gasoline engines of 1.3 liters (95 hp) and 1.5 liters (103/109 hp). Four-wheel drive is available with a 1.5-liter engine. In 2018, a hybrid version appeared (1.5 liter, 74 hp).
The updated Toyota Probox began to look more stylish, new spectacular body colors appeared, while the car retains some of the distinguishing features of the first version of the station wagon - for example, synthetic rubber inserts on the sides of the bumper (most often made in black). Major changes in the car inside: a completely new front panel, a new more efficient air conditioning in all trim levels. Thanks to the use of a parking brake with a foot drive, there is more space next to the driver, which is used to better organize the workplace. In general, the machine has even more additional compartments, stands, holders, and a sliding table has increased in size. In the basic versions, front seats with fabric upholstery and integrated head restraints. The back sofa “in the base” is a hard bench with dermantine upholstery. F configuration includes front seats with adjustable head restraints and better upholstery, a comfortable back sofa with fabric upholstery, a thick pillow, a raised back and head restraints. Power windows are standard on DX Comfort (driver's door), GL (two front), F (all four) trim levels. The equipment of the hybrid includes climate control and heated front seats.

The Toyota Probox powertrain of the 2015 model year has undergone a revolution: instead of the classic manual and automatic transmissions, a CVT is now used. And without options - only CVT. The 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE engine survived the restyling, but the 1.3-liter versions changed the brand - now instead of the 2NZ-FE, the more modern 1NR-FE with improved torque at low revs is used. The 1.5-liter ICE is available with front-wheel drive (109 hp, 136 Nm, 5.5 l / 100 km) or all-wheel drive (103 hp, 132 Nm, 6.3 l / 100 km), and The 1.3-liter version is offered only for the front-wheel drive Probox with indicators of 95 hp / 121 Nm and 5.7 liters per 100 km. The THS II hybrid installation consists of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (74 hp) and a 45 kW (61 hp) electric motor. The average fuel consumption of the Probox Hybrid is 3.6-4.4 l / 100 km (depending on the measurement method). In Japan, the novelty is subject to a reduced transport tax for hybrids.

Suspension Toyota Probox and Succeed in a modernized body is made according to the previous classic scheme for compact cars: the front MacPherson strut, the rear is a beam with trailing arms (for all-wheel drive cars, a continuous axle). After the upgrade, the suspension was reconfigured in the model, and the steering was equipped with a speed-sensitive electric power amplifier. Front ventilated disc brakes, disc diameter increased from 13 to 14 inches for more effective braking, rear drum brakes. The dimensions of the car body: length 4245 mm, width 1690 mm, height 1525 mm. Ground clearance 130-140 mm. Wheelbase 2550 mm, turning radius 4.9 m. Payload about 400 kg. The luggage compartment is quite roomy, with an almost square-shaped opening. Depending on the position of the rear seat, the depth of separation is 1040/1810 mm; height / width 935/1420 mm, loading height 585 mm. In versions of Probox GL, DX Comfort, DX, the entire back seat reclines, the water-repellent coating makes it easier to clean the trunk. For Probox F models (option for GL, DX Comfort), the rear seat is folded in two stages: the cushion is folded forward, then the back is laid (with the head restraints removed), forming a flat surface; floor covering - from fleecy material.

After the restyling of 2014, Toyota Probox became even safer. The standard equipment includes: two airbags, ABS system with EBD (brake force distribution system between the front and rear axles depending on the mass of the cargo on board), emergency braking warning (emergency braking lights flash during sudden braking), the brake assist system on the rise (Hill Start Assist), as well as the stabilization system (VSC) and traction control (TRC). The complex of Toyota Safety Sense safety systems (standard from 08/30/2016) includes a collision avoidance system, a lane departure warning and automatic high beam.

Toyota Probox is an excellent example of a passenger-and-freight car. For its purposes (household, small transportation) it is almost perfect, while the updated model has become even safer, more economical, improved driving performance and handling. Perhaps the only significant drawback remains the same - the inability to fold the back seat in parts.
