The compact van Ractis replaced the Funcargo model, which was discontinued in 2005. A car was produced specifically for sale in the domestic market and is included in the Toyota compact group of new generation, comfortable, economical and safe. Auto combines a spacious interior and a sporty appearance. The new car has become more comfortable than the Funcargo, while maintaining a high layout. The motto was the phrase: “with a large load at high speed” - Ractis, despite its small dimensions, is quite capable of confidently staying on high-speed routes even at full load. The main chassis units are borrowed from the second-generation Vitz. Under the hood of the Toyota Ractis is a gasoline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters or 1.5 liters.
The high-quality interior of Toyota Ractis is equipped with comfortable seats with a pleasant to the touch upholstery, optitron dashboard, which contains an LCD screen that displays information about the current gear, odometer readings and fuel level, as well as time. Own display has a climate control system (basic air conditioning is simple). The multifunction steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach. The engine is started from the button. The glass panoramic roof creates the effect of even greater interior space. The wide and comfortable back sofa is arranged according to the 6: 4 scheme. There is enough legroom in the back, while the back seat can accommodate three, but two can sit really comfortably using the central armrest and a folding table with cup holders integrated in the seat. Welcab models are specially equipped for people with reduced mobility.

The first generation Toyota Ractis powerplant is a 1.3-liter 2SZ-FE (87 hp) combined with a CVT or a 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE working with a 4-speed automatic (4WD, 105 l .s.) or with a variator (110 hp). It should be noted that a more powerful 1.5-liter model is equipped with a new generation continuously variable transmission - Active CVT. This variator can work in fixed gear mode, simulating a 7-speed sports gearbox with shifting using paddle shifters. There is also a CVT SPORT mode that provides increased responsiveness to gas.

In front, Ractis has an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, the upper cups are attached to the body with one central nut (as in the Vitz II); rear elastic beam with separate shock absorbers and springs. Considering that they tried to make Ractis as sporty as possible, wheels with a size of 175 / 60R16 were installed on it. Improved speed capabilities required to make the suspension stiff enough to reduce ground clearance (it is 135-155 mm). The electric power steering helps to increase controllability, and the system of auto-alignment of the body with rear air bags instead of springs was optionally available. The dimensions of the Toyota Ractis body are as follows: length 3955 mm, width 1660 mm, height 1500-1510 mm. The wheelbase is 2550 mm, the turning radius is 4.9 m. The interior looks quite spacious, its dimensions: length 1920-1960 mm, width and height 1380 and 1365 mm. Trunk volume - 321 liters. The rear seats fold easily into a flat floor. Items up to 1540 mm in length will enter Ractis without difficulty, and the total trunk volume reaches almost a cubic meter - to be more precise, 987 liters. It should be noted that another type of rear sofa is installed on 4WD cars, its pillows thrown forward forward reduce the length of the trunk floor to 1300 mm, and the maximum volume is reduced to 736 liters.

It is important to note the Toyota Ractis safety approach. An ABS system with EBD is installed, the standard for some trim levels is electronic stability control and traction control. The car received a GOA-type rugged body, belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, active head restraints, two standard airbags and additional side airbags, as well as safety curtains. Thanks to the new front design, the Ractis has become safer for pedestrians as well.

Despite the fact that the Ractis is formally the heir to the Funcargo, still it is fundamentally two different cars. Perhaps, yielding to its predecessor in practicality, it retains compactness, maneuverability, but surpasses its progenitor in comfort, dynamics and other components. The disadvantages of the owners are low clearance, a weak 1.3 liter engine, cheap plastic and the lack of sound insulation, cramped space under the hood. There are few characteristic “diseases”, but one of the most common is the failure of the front wiper motor - it is recommended to periodically clean the drainage channels under the windshield.
