Sedan
Toyota Sai is an analogue of the Lexus HS model. The new sedan, designed exclusively for the use of a hybrid drive, Toyota introduced in 2009. The premiere took place at the Tokyo Motor Show. This car is considered the "older brother" of the Prius and belongs to a higher class. Equipped with a THS-II hybrid system, which includes Atkinson’s 2.4-liter gasoline engine and electric motor. Toyota Sai has a very high environmental performance: 85% of the car can be completely recycled, and the interior of the car is 60% ecoplastic of plant origin. Low fuel consumption is a defining characteristic: Sai can drive up to 23 km on one liter of gasoline. This easy-to-use and comfortable sedan demonstrates, among other things, the smallest drag coefficient Cd = 0.27 among classmates. Sales of the model in the domestic market started on December 7, 2009.
When developing the exterior and interior of the Toyota Sai sedan, the Vibrant Clarity (“ringing purity”) philosophy was used. The exterior design is characterized by a very smooth transition from the line of inclination of the hood to the windshield and further along the roof to the rear lights, where it ends with a short trunk lid, which gives the impression of a one-volume body. The car interior was very spacious. The interior stands out with its spectacular center console with Remote Touch, which is designed to control the multimedia installation and the on-board computer, the multimedia screen extends from the front panel. The basic package includes a navigation system with a hard drive, climate control, leather steering wheel, electric driver's seat, audio system with 6 speakers, 16-inch alloy wheels. The top-end equipment G includes an electric steering column and both front seats, memory settings, standard LED headlights, aluminum wheels 18 inches, a more advanced audio system and improved interior trim, and with the AS package - driver assistance systems, body kit and spoiler. Noteworthy is the version of S LED Edition (2010) with standard LED headlights, aerodynamic body kit and spoiler, as well as models with Touring selection packages (2011), offering an improved sports look.

The Toyota Sai power plant includes a gasoline engine and an electric motor. The first is a 2.4-liter 16-valve “four” 2AZ-FXE with a VVT-i system, with a capacity of 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm - this engine works according to the Atkinson cycle (like the Toyota Prius) and has an increased efficiency. As for the electric motor, this is a 105 kW synchronous alternating current motor, it is powered by a block of 34 nickel-metal hydride batteries with a capacity of 6.5 Ah, which are located under the bottom of the machine. The power of the installation is enough to accelerate the car to a maximum speed of 180 km / h, and it takes 8.8 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h. The role of the transmission is performed by an electric continuously variable transmission (hybrid synergetic drive). The control system will automatically determine the most environmentally friendly (and economical) driving style. Fuel consumption in the “10-15” cycle is 4.3 liters of gasoline per 100 km. The volume of the fuel tank is 55 liters.

The Toyota Sai suspension includes MacPherson strut front suspension and dual wishbone rear suspension. The steering system uses an electric power steering (EPS) to improve reactions, and in addition, unlike hydraulic systems, it does not take power from the engine, which also contributes to efficiency. Disc brakes on all wheels (front - ventilated). Dimensions of the car (4610 x 1770 x 1495 mm - L x W x H) allow it to be quite maneuverable - the minimum turning radius is 5.2 m (for models with 16-inch wheels). At the same time, the novelty has a spacious interior - its dimensions are 2040 x 1505 x 1210 mm. The layout of the batteries and the compact design of the rear suspension made it possible to make the luggage compartment quite decent for a hybrid of dimensions - its volume is 343 liters. The Toyota Sai comes with 10 pillows, active front head restraints. The sedan is equipped as standard with ABS + EBD systems, electronic stability control and traction control, cruise control and other functions. With an additional safety package, modern driver assistance systems were offered: a pre-emergency collision protection system with the front camera, adaptive cruise control based on a millimeter-wave radar. Since the presentation, Toyota Sai has been expecting amazing success in the domestic market. The car had not even had time to go on sale, and the shaft of pre-orders more than blocked plans for the monthly sale of 3,000 hybrid sedans per month. The car really turned out very successful: comfortable, spacious, economical. The sedan is also of great interest in the secondary market. Cons its owners call the lack of a hatch in the trunk (the rear seats do not add up), low clearance, expensive body parts.
