Hatchback
The second wave of change affected the fourth-generation Toyota Starlet in May 1994. The car's grille has been updated, new front fog lights have appeared, the design of the rear lights and the tailgate have changed. Recall that in this generation of Starlet there are two types: the five-door hatchback has the status of a comfortable compact family car as opposed to the more sporty three-door Starlet, intended more for personal use. In accordance with this principle, the biggest changes affected the “hot” GT model, which is equipped with a 135-horsepower turbo engine - it not only received a new, specially designed front grille, but also a head optics with four round headlights and is an impressive, somewhat aggressive sight.
Since 1994, Toyota Starlet has had more special equipment packages that have improved the equipment of basic configurations: for example, the Soleil E, Soleil Custom Pack and Soleil L extra package have expanded the lineup. The sports standard is set by complete sets like S sports selection and Gi: foglights, a rear spoiler, a leather steering wheel braid, and standard stabilizers in the suspension. In addition to the turbo engine, the Starlet GT “lighter” is distinguished by even more sporting details, including low-profile tires 185 / 55R14, a three-spoke steering wheel with tilt adjustment and sports front seats, GT emblems on the radiator grille, rear door trim and steering wheel. In September 1994, Toyota introduced another improved trim version of the Soleil L in a three-door body - the youth version of Jeans, which included air conditioning, power accessories and seats with dense wear-resistant inserts in blue.

All petrol modifications of the Toyota Starlet 1992-1994 are equipped with 4E-FE injection engines - a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with two camshafts (DOHC 16V) gives a maximum power of 100 liters. with. in front-wheel drive modifications and 97 hp in all-wheel drive versions. Apart, of course, are the GT modifications, which have an intercooled turbocharged engine (4E-FTE), which produces an impressive 135 “forces”. On the hatchback, a diesel engine of the 1N series (1.5 L) with a capacity of 55 hp continues to be installed. Simple models were equipped with a 4-speed "mechanics" or a 3-speed "automatic", more powerful and expensive, respectively, received a 5MT or 4AT gearbox. Toyota Starlet P80 has MacPherson strut independent front suspension, semi-torsion rear suspension. All-wheel drive cars receive a continuous beam of the rear axle with other springs and shock absorbers. The fourth-generation Starlet had four-wheel disc brakes, but they only got the three-door GT model, the rest are content with the traditional design with ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear. The body length of the Toyota Starlet late phase of production is 3740 mm, for the GT model it reaches 3805 mm, the width is 1600-1620 mm, the height is 1380 mm. The wheelbase has a size of 2300 mm, the turning radius is 4.3-4.5 meters, which allows Starlet to turn around on a small patch, but the GT has increased it to 4.7 m due to new wheels. The hatchback has a load capacity of 300 kg. Interior dimensions are as follows: 1700 x 1315 x 1155 mm. The trunk has a minimum volume of 226 liters. The folding rear seat backrest (in the expensive versions is divided) more than doubles it.

As additional equipment for the Toyota Starlet, a driver airbag and anti-lock braking system ABS were offered. The car has a standard driver seat belt warning light, equipped with side stiffeners in the doors, three-point belts (the front ones are height-adjustable). In 1995, Soleil and Soleil L trim levels received a safety package that included a standard driver's airbag and anti-glare interior mirror.

Starlet was considered quite successful in the Toyota lineup. Due to the low prices for the main car models, it became possible to produce the optimal number of cars. By the end of production of this generation, the model has become safer, more comfortable. During the period of active import of right-hand drive used cars into our country, Starlet was noticeably inferior in popularity to the more capacious Corolla / Sprinter, but due to its economy, they easily found buyers. It can be noted simplicity and maintainability, maneuverability, but, being light and short, the car is less stable on the highway.
