The Toyota Alphard and Vellfire models were modernized in September 2011. The key elements of the Vellfire design changes are the new front end: a different bumper and radiator grille, modified optics. At the same time, Vellfire still has a more aggressive appearance with "two-story" headlights. Additional body colors appeared: light blue metallic, dark purple metallic and dark blue. New equipment includes glasses with UV protection, a panoramic view system. In addition to the previous gasoline versions, Toyota again released a hybrid model with a Toyota Estima THS II propulsion system based on a 2.4-liter engine. Vellfire Hybrid can be seven-seater - with fabric or leather upholstery. Or four-seater - in the maximum configuration of the Royal Lounge. In any case, the services of middle-class passengers - ottoman chairs. In the upper versions, not only with heating, but also with ventilation. The comfort of the spacious Vellfire cabin has been brought to perfection: the minivan is equipped with very comfortable seats and has excellent sound insulation. The restyled version has changed the design of the dashboard and seat upholstery, which improved the quality perception. In hybrid versions for part of the seat upholstery and in floor mats, ecoplastics with improved characteristics compared to conventional bioplastics are exemplified. Due to the appearance of hybrid versions, a number of trim levels became even wider. New special specifications were introduced, including the so-called “golden” series of minivans. On the example of 2013 Vellfire Golden Eyes II modifications, it is possible to note the golden elements of headlights, special wheels, the theme of gold is beaten on the front and door panels, the central tunnel, the steering wheel and the transmission lever. Even a smart key is also golden.

The new hybrid powerplant, which appeared in Toyota Vellfire after restyling, has not undergone fundamental changes compared to the previous generation Alphard H10 minivans. As before, the main engine is the 2.4-liter petrol unit 2AZ-FXE. The transmission is continuously variable. There are still two electric motors. One is connected to the front wheels, the second to the rear. That is why, as before, the hybrid Alphard and Vellfire are exclusively four-wheel drive. The difference between the new generation THS-C hybrid system is that the engine now develops 150 liters. With., the maximum power of the front electric motor increased to 105 kW, rear - up to 50 kW. The voltage throughout the system rose to 650 V. Two additional driving modes also appeared: Eco and EV. At the first installation for the sake of efficiency limits the energy consumption of the heater and air conditioning. The second - forced movement on electric traction without the participation of internal combustion engines. Two gasoline engines remain in service: an economical 2.4-liter (170 hp) combined with a CVT and a powerful 3.5-liter V6 (280 hp) paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.  The front of the Toyota Vellfire has an independent suspension with suspension struts like MacPherson strut and anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is a semi-dependent, torsion beam. Minivan disc brakes (ventilated front). Steering - type gear-rack with electric power. In the new generation, in conventional 4WD gasoline versions, the Active Torque Control system is used - in normal mode, the drive is on the front wheels, in the AUTO 4WD mode, the system automatically directs torque to the rear wheels if necessary. The hybrid model has a standard four-wheel drive, but without a mechanical link between the axles - the rear wheel drive is connected using a separate electric motor. The dimensions of the Toyota Vellfire body are: length 4840-4865 mm, width 1830-1840 mm, height 1890-1915 mm. The wheelbase is 2950 mm, the minimum turning radius is 5.7 m. The weight of the car is from 1940 to 2190 kg, depending on version. Interior dimensions: 3160 x 1585 x 1400 mm. The roomy luggage compartment is combined with a well-thought-out seat transformation system. Toyota Vellfire has excellent safety performance. The standard equipment includes front airbags, side airbags and curtains for the entire length of the passenger compartment, active head restraints, child seat mounts. For active safety, ABS and EBD systems, brake assist brake assist system and dynamic stabilization system are responsible. A variety of “assistants” were installed for an extra charge, including a pre-crash safety system, a radar-type cruise control, and a lane holding system. The new system of visual display "from above" in different projections serves for safer maneuvering in the parking lot. In the second generation, Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire have become even more luxurious, fully justifying their status as luxury minivans. The car is still reliable and not too expensive to maintain, although the new engines are more demanding in operation. A significant disadvantage remains low ground clearance. The next generation of Alphard and Vellfire minivans for the Japanese market was released in 2015.
