The second generation of the popular Toyota Vitz model was released under the slogan: "my compact car is my pride." But this did not mean a drastic change in the concept of the lineup. Rather, on the contrary, for a more successful implementation, it was decided to carefully monitor and eliminate all those shortcomings and complaints that appeared during the sale of first-generation cars. Dimensions increased, and in the same way, the interior and trunk became more spacious. All this is due to the increased wheelbase. The interior has become more interesting, part of the front panel is decorated with a silver ornament (in the interior of the RS modification the ornament is black), which clearly added personality. As for the exterior design, while maintaining the overall shape of the body of the first generation, the car has become more massive. The new generation Vitz, although inferior to the previous one in the number of complete sets, but in general has improved its equipment. This is especially noticeable in the innovations regarding the interior - the new, original climate control panel with large “twists” and buttons integrated in them seemed to come from a more expensive car in the class - just like the interior decoration of doors with armrests of a new shape and a pronounced hint of sportiness. In expensive trim levels, leather inserts, a multifunction steering wheel, and a smart key appeared. The Vitz rear seat can be moved back and forth and folded in different positions, achieving the most optimal load placement in the trunk. Incidentally, it has a “double bottom”, so that small items can be hidden under the floor in the luggage box. And two glove compartments opposite the front passenger and a drawer under the chair will allow you to place even more all kinds of “little things”. For the RS sports version, seats with improved lateral support, an exhaust nozzle, a tachometer in the dashboard, wheels with original “casting” and other options are offered.

 For Toyota Vitz, there are several types of engines that differ in their displacement and power: 1-liter (71 hp), 1.3-liter (87 hp) and 1.5-liter (110 l. with.). But, for example, the 1-liter engine used to be a 4-cylinder, but now it has been decided to use its three-cylinder counterpart, who has established himself in Toyota Passo and Daihatsu Boon cars. This decision is explained by the desire, without changing the engine size, to improve traction and reduce fuel consumption. It is worth recalling that on the indicated car this parameter was equal to “1 liter of fuel per 22 km of run”. To make the hatchback even more economical, I had to equip it with an automatic torque control system. In addition, the engine is combined with a CVT-i type CVT. The most cost-effective was Vitz in the 1.0 “intelligent package” configuration with a start-stop system - in this case, you can drive up to 24.5 km per liter.

 The Vitz suspension includes MacPherson struts in front. Rear - semi-independent suspension with a torsion beam. Cars with 4WD give you the opportunity to take full advantage of this type of transmission on slippery roads and in bad weather. Four-wheel drive is implemented by the V-Flex system with rear wheels connected by viscous coupling. Despite the fact that the wheelbase of the car increased by 90 mm, such an important parameter as the minimum turning radius suffered very little - it is 4.4 m compared to 4.3 from the previous generation.

 Toyota Vitz second generation put forward more stringent safety requirements. The standard equipment includes ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution system), Brake Assist (emergency braking system). Additionally installed anti-snow system. Passive safety indicators have been improved: a reinforced body, improved head restraints that reduce the likelihood of spinal injuries. The car was standardly equipped with two front airbags, and for an extra charge - side airbags and curtain airbags.

 When developing the next Toyota Vitz, the measures taken were more likely to be the refinement of previous ideas than served as the implementation of new ones. So the second generation demonstrates the magnificent result of evolutionary development. The car has become more interesting in all respects, while maintaining one of its main competitive advantages - a rich technical diversity. Cons quite expected for an inexpensive compact class car - hard plastic in the cabin, poor sound insulation, increased vibration in versions with a three-cylinder engine.
