The second-generation Toyota Windom is a model that repeats its Lexus ES300 counterpart. Appearance Toyota Windom is not much different from the exterior of the first generation - the car remained just as charming, only slightly increasing in size. Advanced lighting technology, the addition of sharp edges made the look more sporty and balanced. The strong image of the Lexus brand is felt in the interior design of Toyota Windom. The design in general terms does not differ from the machines of the first generation of this model. Windom is a high-end mid-range front-wheel drive sedan. V6 engines of 2.5 and 3 liters are installed on it.
 The interior of Windom using genuine leather in black, greenish-gray or beige tones makes a luxurious impression. The decoration used leather from the best American manufacturers. Inside, there are many glove compartments and cup holders. The car has climate control with a separate display, but it is placed low and not quite readable. The basic equipment includes an electric package for controlling door locks, windows and mirrors, with a 2.5-liter engine, mechanical seat adjustments are relied on, but more expensive versions cannot be imagined without an electric drive for the front seats, an optitron instrument cluster with adjustable backlight intensity. For a surcharge, a rear wiper, sunroof, leather interior, navigation system with a large display, etc. were offered. The special Coach Edition series, which was released in February 1999, features a wood-trimmed steering wheel, leather upholstery from Coach, a well-known manufacturer of high-quality leather products, chromed sills, body kit and spoiler, and an optional golden metallic body color.

 Under the hood of the Toyota Windom V20 is a V-shaped “six” with a working volume of 2.5 or 3.0 liters, with two camshafts for each head. The main engine is the new 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE with 210 hp. (10 hp more than the previous model). In 1998, it was equipped with a variable valve timing system with an additional increase in power - now it gives out 215 “forces”. The “younger” 2.5-liter 2MZ-FE unit has a slightly more modest “herd” of 200 “horses”. The gearbox is a non-alternative 4-band automatic, but in different versions. For the 2.5-liter Windom, the ECT-iE is electronically controlled automatic transmission, and for the 3.0-liter, the latest Toyota SUPER ECT transmission, which features smoother gear shifting and “adaptability” to driving style and road conditions, there is also a mode manual control.

 Toyota Windom has front-wheel drive. The chassis includes a fully independent suspension of all wheels on suspension struts with coil springs and anti-roll bars. Suspension adjustable: sport / comfort. Front ventilated disc brakes, rear disc brakes. The wheelbase in the second generation has a size of 2670 mm. The dimensions of the body are 4845 mm in length, 1790 mm in width and 1395 mm in height. The salon is extended by 100 mm, its length is now 1980 mm. At the same time, it became a little narrower (1485 mm against the previous 1500 mm), but higher - 1170 instead of 1150 in the previous model. Trunk volume 370 liters. The back of the rear sofa is one-piece, but there is a hatch under the reclining central armrest, which can be used for transporting skis.

 The Toyota Windom has a “hard top” design, with a high degree of torsional rigidity, and the GOA safety cage meets the necessary crash protection requirements. In the presence of dual airbags (driver and front passenger), ABS / EBD system as a standard for all versions. For an extra charge, side pillows were installed. In the equipment of 3.0-liter models and optionally in 2.5-liter there is a traction control system. Since 1998, the 3.0G and 3.0X trim levels featured a brake assist system and a VSC system.

 Toyota Windom, as before, stands out for its luxurious equipment. The strength of models that have Lexus brand analogues, in addition to good driving performance, is sound insulation and excellent safety indicators (especially in top versions since 1998). In general, Toyota Windom is characterized by high reliability and workmanship. If we talk about the shortcomings, then the owners include decent fuel consumption and higher costs when servicing the V6 engine, low clearance.
