Toyota Windom V20, 2 generation, restyling 08.1999 - 07.2001

The second-generation Toyota Windom in August 1999 received a number of changes that affected both the equipment and the exterior. The latter was refreshed by the new grille and new xenon headlights, fog lights and taillights were updated. An anti-theft system based on a standard immobilizer appeared. Inside, a new navigation system with an enlarged display. Another innovation was the electrochromic rear-view mirror with automatic dimming, which prevents glare from the headlights of other cars. The aggregate base is the same - V6 engines of 2.5 and 3.0 liters capacity of 200 and 215 hp, working with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
 Changes in the Toyota Windom interior after restyling include a new navigation system, the diagonal of the display of which increased from 5.8 to 6.5 inches, the standard audio system was replenished with a DVD format, the wood-like finish pattern became brighter, the texture and colors of the upholstery were updated, changed shape of the rear head restraints. A special specification was issued in the top performance of the “G cruising edition”, which is distinguished by exclusive alloy 16-inch wheels, a black interior, standard cruise control. In January 2000, a special Coach Edition series was re-released: a wood-trimmed steering wheel, a front body kit and a spoiler, leather from the American company Coach, which makes high-quality upholstery for Lexus, chrome thresholds, and an optional metallic body color. In December 2000, the special edition “G Coach Cruising Edition” was added.

 Under the hood of the Toyota Windom V20 is a V-shaped “six” with a working volume of 2.5 or 3.0 liters, with two camshafts for each head. The main engine, a 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE with a VVT-i system, has 210 hp. The “younger” 2.5-liter 2MZ-FE unit has a slightly more modest “herd” of 200 “horses”. The gearbox is a non-alternative 4-band automatic, but in different versions. For the 2.5-liter Windom, the ECT-iE is electronically controlled automatic transmission, and for the 3.0-liter - the latest Toyota SUPER ECT transmission, which features smoother gear shifting and "adaptability" to the driving style and road conditions, there is also a manual control mode .

 Toyota Windom has front-wheel drive. The chassis includes a fully independent suspension of all wheels on suspension struts with coil springs and anti-roll bars. Suspension adjustable: sport / comfort. Front ventilated disc brakes, rear disc brakes. The wheelbase in the second generation has a size of 2670 mm. The dimensions of the body are 4845 mm in length, 1790 mm in width and 1395 mm in height. Interior dimensions: 1980 x 1485 x 1170 mm. Trunk volume 370 liters. The back of the rear sofa is one-piece, but there is a hatch under the reclining central armrest, which can be used for transporting skis.  The Toyota Windom has a “hard top” design, with a high degree of torsional rigidity, and the GOA safety cage meets the necessary crash protection requirements. The rear headrests with vertical adjustment are built into the seatbacks - one of the differences in restyling. High safety is provided by double pillows (for the driver and the front passenger), ABS / EBD systems as the standard for all versions. For an extra charge, side pillows were installed. In the equipment of the 3.0-liter models and optionally the 2.5-liter ones have a traction control system, in addition, the 3.0-liter versions relied on the standard VSC system.

 Toyota Windom, as before, stands out for its luxurious equipment. The strengths of models that have Lexus brand analogues, in addition to good driving performance, are soundproofing and improved safety features characteristic of restyling. In general, Toyota Windom is characterized by high reliability and workmanship. If we talk about the shortcomings, then the owners include decent fuel consumption and higher costs when servicing the V6 engine, low clearance.
