Sedan
In August 2001, Toyota released the third generation Windom model. The front-wheel drive executive sedan debuted back in 1991 and is known in the North American market as the Lexus ES300. Unlike the previous two generations, style has been paramount in the evolution of the new Windom. The exterior of the sedan is boldly gleaned and implemented from the slanting design of the front optics of the latest Toyota models. Changes were reflected in the proportions of the sedan - the car increased more significantly in height (60 mm) than in length (20 mm), and the increase in wheelbase was 50 mm. To top it off, Windom received a classic body with window frames to replace the previous "hardtop". Belonging to a high class is more pronounced - the company abandoned the basic modifications with a 2.5-liter engine, and Windom can now be exclusively 3-liter. The interior of Toyota Windom looks luxurious, in a truly "American" style inherent in Lexus models. The sophisticated quality of the smallest Toyota Windom parts makes a lasting impression. The classic design with rich wood trim is able to satisfy most buyers, connoisseurs of special luxury could order a sedan with a leather interior. For Windom X and Windom G, a design option was proposed with black elements on the front panel (Black Selection configuration). The Windom G version standardly included a navigation system with a DVD drive. The highest class is especially pronounced in the G Limited Edition model: the steering wheel and gear knob are sheathed in leather and finished in wood, and the equipment includes an electric curtain, decorative illumination. The "Black selection" package was also available for the "G limited edition". A small update took place in 2003 - the head unit was replaced by an MD player, and the latest G-BOOK navigation system appeared. Toyota Windom sedan is equipped with a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine 1MZ-FE. Among its features are an aluminum block with a cylinder angle of 60 °, a forged crankshaft, a lightweight piston group, a system for changing the geometry of the intake manifold, a timing belt drive and the presence of a variable valve timing system on the VVT-i intake shaft in combination with an electronic throttle. The motor is quite reliable and with proper maintenance (including replacing the timing belt once every 150,000 km) is able to last quite a long time without causing problems. However, one of its "diseases" is often called increased oil consumption - usually this is accompanied by increased carbon formation due to problems with cooling efficiency. The engine is paired with a 5-speed "automatic". With a maximum power of 215 hp (299 Nm of torque) Premium gasoline consumption (AI-98) is 10.2 l / 100 km. The fuel tank has a capacity of 70 liters.

The third-generation Toyota Windom is built on a common platform with the Camry CV30 series and has independent suspension on all four wheels. Modifications 3.0G are equipped as standard with an electronically controlled suspension of the “H∞-TEMS” type, which allows using one of four modes: from the hardest in the “Sport” position to the softest in the “Comfort” position. Disc brakes on all wheels (front ventilated), rack and pinion steering with power steering. The dimensions of the sedan body are 4865 x 1810 x 1455 mm (L x W x H). The wheelbase with a decent size of 2720 mm, the increased width and height of the body made it possible to make the cabin more spacious than the previous generation model: its dimensions are 2025 x 1510 x 1185. For comparison, the Windom V20 had interior dimensions of 1980 x 1485 x 1170 mm. The boot volume has increased by almost 40 liters - up to 411 liters. There is a ski hatch in the back of the rear sofa.

The third Windom was developed according to the Toyota 21st Century concept, so considerable attention has been paid to safety. The sedan's body has successfully passed crash tests. The standard equipment includes front airbags for the driver and passenger, side airbags in the backs of the front seats, as well as curtains for the entire length of the passenger compartment. The front head restraints provide reliable protection against whiplash injuries. Belts of the front seats - with pretensioners and force limiters, the rear seat is equipped with a three-point belt for the central passenger. Active security systems include ABS + EBD as standard. The standard for the G Limited edition is the traction control system.

In the third generation, Toyota Windom is perceived as a completely new car, not at all reminiscent of its predecessors. Stylish appearance, sophisticated driving performance, excellent trim and attention to detail - the sedan seems flawless. Although there are disadvantages. Due to the features of the engine compartment, the car is not too adapted for self-service. Owners often complain about a weak starter and a capricious "machine." Gas mileage is highly dependent on driver claims.
