The fifth generation of Honda Accord was the first to which you can apply the concept of “sports image”. It began to be produced in 1993. By increasing the height and width of the machine, it was possible to significantly expand its internal space and bring the body to the size of the C-segment. This was done to meet the requirements of the main market for the model - North America. The design of the Honda Accord, starting from the front of the body and ending with the rear bumper, evokes associations such as “courageous” and “undaunted”. We can say that the degree of balance in the appearance of this generation of Accord is the highest compared to all its predecessors. By the time the production began, the total sales of this model, the history of which has been going on since 1976, amounted to about 7.2 million copies in more than 130 countries. The Honda Accord line of model 1993 model year included several trim levels, some of which retained the indices of the previous generation. The simplest version is the FX configuration, which, as in the previous generation, was offered only with a 1.8-liter power unit. However, she appeared in the factory program a little later - only since 1995. At the time of the release of this generation, the most inexpensive version of the Honda Accord was offered in the 1.8 EX version, the price of which was slightly less than 1.8 million yen, while the most serious sports equipment, the Accord SiR, was offered from 2.4 million. the version provided the following options: cruise control, automatic climate control (standard for all trim levels); radio with acoustics Bose; tachometer with a red zone starting at 7400 rpm. , aluminum rims with tires 205 / 55R15. Optional - sunroof, folding exterior mirrors, leather interior.

The base model was the 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder F18B engine of a new design, with a capacity of 125 hp, which is almost 20 hp more than the previous generation version. Though not so significantly, but the two-liter engine also added to the power, it amounted to 135 hp. Options VTE, VTL and VTS were equipped with a 2.2-liter F22B engine with a system of variable valve timing, the power of which is 145 hp And for the top-end modification of SiR, the H22A DOHC VTEC engine was designed with a capacity of 190 hp already. With serious dynamics, the Honda Accord with this engine has a fuel consumption (Premium gasoline, AI-98) of 8.6 liters per hundred in mixed mode. In the event that this modification is also supplemented by a 5-speed manual transmission, the driver is given the opportunity to fully enjoy the sports ride on this front-wheel drive sedan from Honda. However, there is an option with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Particularly noteworthy are the driving characteristics of the machine. It uses the well-proven double independent suspension of linkage type on all 4 wheels. All modifications of this generation Honda Accord have front-wheel drive. The wheelbase of the car is 2715 mm, it is only 5 mm less than the previous one; accordingly, the minimum turning radius is 5.5 m. In terms of safety, this generation of Honda Accord has advanced slightly compared to its predecessor. As standard, the car is equipped with three-point seat belts, the doors have amplifiers of the inner frame, since 1995, the standard has become the presence of front airbags on all manufactured modifications. In SiR trim levels, the car can be equipped with an electronic traction control system, LSD limited-slip differential, however, in inexpensive trim levels, even ABS was offered only as an option.

The high popularity of the fifth-generation Honda Accord at home and abroad was determined by the high build quality, reliability, efficiency and comfort. Engines have always been a strong point of the model - both in terms of technical characteristics and degree of reliability (of course, with proper care). However, the owners provoke them to “exploits” much more often, and this may affect, among other things, the condition of the suspension of used cars. In general, this generation offers more than affordable prices.
The next, already fifth, generation Honda Accord was released in 1993. The following year, coupes and station wagons were designed and put into production in America. The production of these models, as well as their development, took place at the Honda of America in Ohio, so the coupe and station wagon turned out to be purely American cars. This is again evidenced by the Honda of America badge, sparkling on the pillar. In the design of the exterior of the station wagon, the luxurious design of a sports sedan was used. The strongly tilted rear pillar of the body is made in the generally accepted sports style, and in general the rear of the body gives the impression of lightness.
Universal Honda Accord, like the previous generation in the body of this type, has an impressive amount of luggage, which is very convenient from the point of view of practicality. It contains the luggage blind, side and “glove compartments” located under the floor for storing small items. Accord Wagon was offered to the buyer in different versions. These are the basic configurations of “VTL” and “Vi”, as well as close to the latest “ViX” (since 1995). In addition, since 1996, a sports version of the 2.2 wagon SiR has been offered - an option that has become very popular among sports universals. The standard equipment of the Honda Accord Wagon included such options as climate control, wood trim, remote control key, spoiler, roof rails, alloy wheels. More expensive versions offered additional cruise control, a leather steering wheel cover, a sunroof, a more expensive radio and acoustics, etc. In 1995, the model underwent a number of changes. In particular, the design of the "sports" grille has changed to a simpler and more modest.

At first, the 5th generation Accord wagon model was offered only with a 2.2-liter inline 4-cylinder 16-valve SOHC engine of the F22B model (VTEC) with a power of 145 hp, later the SiR modification appeared, equipped with an engine with the VTEC DOHC system . Its power is 190 hp. strikingly transformed the wagon, which in dynamics is slightly inferior to the sports versions of the sedan and coupe Accord. It is worth noting that this engine is characterized by a high degree of compression and consumes the highest quality unleaded gasoline, although at the same time the fuel consumption in 10/15 mode fits into the unwritten generally accepted norm, which sounds like the coveted formula: “no more than 10 liters per hundred”. Unlike the sedan, the Accord coupe and station wagon were equipped only with an automatic transmission.

Suspension Accord Wagon uses an independent double-lever design on both axles. On the standard version, tires with a dimension of 195 / 60R15 are used, and on the sports one - 205 / 55R15.

The chassis settings are such that they provide excellent steering stability and high driving comfort. Moderately stiff suspension behaves well on roads of not the best quality, which allows us to consider the Accord station wagon as an acceptable tourist option, even taking into account its low ground clearance, decent wheelbase and the presence of only front-wheel drive.

The standard Honda Accord safety kit of this generation includes the ABS system, frontal airbags (driver and passenger), door stiffeners, child seat mounts. On all versions, disc-type brakes are front and rear (front-ventilated), in addition, the Accord SiR has oversized front brake discs.

A characteristic feature of the Accord family of wagons can be called an alloy of power and practicality. Even taking into account obsolescence, cars of this generation can still be in satisfactory technical condition, however, one should take into account the fact that the prevalence of the station wagons of this model, unlike sedans, is not too high, and this can affect the availability of individual spare parts, and on the subsequent liquidity of the model.
The fifth-generation Honda Accord is characterized by the multifaceted configuration of a model range designed for different markets. The next generational change took place in 1993, with the release of a sedan, and in 1994, specifically for the American market, which at that time was in great demand for a coupe, this two-door middle class car was designed and developed, which was supposed to replace a coupe of the previous generation. A car was also offered in the Japanese market with two types of 2.2-liter engines, including 190-horsepower. Compared with the previous generation of the model, this Accord has a more luxurious interior design and a more “dynamic” body appearance. It should be noted the excellent external design that creates the feeling of a large internal volume. Due to the ease of handling and comfortable rear seats with a sufficiently large legroom for passengers, this coupe can be called a valuable link in the model range of Honda.
For Japanese buyers, the model was offered in two versions: an elegant coupe in the Vi configuration and a sports version of the SiR. As a standard, cars received a salon with fabric upholstery, full power accessories, a remote key, a large central armrest with a volumetric glove compartment, and a radio with 4 speakers (for “SiR” with BOSE speakers). For the sports version, a leather steering wheel was relied upon (on the “Vi” it appeared only after restyling), an electric driver’s seat, cruise control, an electric sunroof. But the main difference was, of course, in which engine was under the hood.

On both versions, power units of 2.2 liters were used, equipped with a variable valve timing system. In the “2.2 coupe Vi” configuration, it was an F22B motor (SOHC, VTEC) with 145 horsepower (at 5500 rpm) and a torque of 198 Nm (at 4500 rpm). And for the sports “2.2 coupe SiR” a much more powerful H22A engine (DOHC, VTEC) was intended, which, with the same volume, developed 190 hp. (6800 rpm) and a torque of 206 Nm (at 5500 rpm). Of course, with such a difference in characteristics, fuel consumption was also different, plus a more powerful engine consumes exclusively high-quality Premium fuel (AI-98). However, the specific power with it is only 7.16 kg per horsepower - a very good indicator that directly characterizes the potential "sharpness" of sensations.

Honda Accord has a remarkably balanced suspension (front and rear two-link design), has a stable behavior in dynamics, moderately sharp steering provides confident cornering. However, it should be borne in mind that in the presence of powerful high-speed engines that are sensitive to gas supply, it is much easier to break the wheels into a slip, especially on slippery surfaces. In general, the car is quite comfortable in movement, and its sports version allows the driver to enjoy all the full power. True, unlike the sedan, the Accord coupe and station wagon were equipped only with an automatic transmission.

The Honda Accord coupe uses disc brakes on all wheels (front ventilated), which are highly sensitive to pressure and are equipped with ABS system. In addition, a set of safety systems as standard provides for the presence of driver and front passenger airbags, door stiffeners, child seat mounts, front belts with a pretensioner.

The Honda Accord Coupe stands out a bit apart in this lineup. This car is more for individuals in the best sense of the word, for those who value a fast ride, their own style in everything. Well, of course, comfort and reliability. Cars of this generation are in much better technical condition than the previous one, but at the same time, given the years of production, the prices are not too high.
