Wagon
A machine called Shuttle ("shuttle") did not appear in the Honda Civic lineup immediately, but only starting from the third generation, in 1983. The development of this model was due to the need to make the familiar Civic car better equipped inside, with greater cargo capacity and in a 5-door station wagon type. Initially, it was not planned that it would be an all-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle, but time passed, and in its development it reached a multi-purpose vehicle “for free time”. In 1987, another Shuttle appeared, based on the fourth-generation Civic model. By his nature, he became even closer to cars from the MPV (multi purpose vehicle) category, and many decisions laid the foundation for the future creation of the Honda CR-V.
The second generation of Shuttle has become larger than the previous one. Now the entire model range mainly consisted of four-wheel drive vehicles of various levels of equipment, and the expansion of the number of complete sets was very significant - 11 modifications were offered, while the sedan and hatchback had much less. Even a modification of the Shuttle Beagle appeared, which received the name from the hound breed and in appearance does not differ from the typical “cross-country” car: powerful, with a “kangaroo” type bumper. In addition, the car was equipped with large-sized fog lights, roof rails, an electric sunroof, a rear wiper, a chic AM / FM stereo cassette player, 4 audio speakers. Over the years of production, the car has undergone many improvements.

The motor range as a whole was no different from the basic Civic model. It began with a 1.3-liter version - a 82 hp D13B engine. The one and a half liter D15B engine developed already 100 hp. The main power unit, fully realizing the capabilities of a cross-country station wagon, was the 1.6-liter ZC engine in versions with a carburetor (dual carb) or PGM-FI fuel injection system - 105 and 120 liters. with.

The Honda Civic Shuttle suspension is fully independent, with double wishbones front and rear. The car was offered both with an automatic transmission, and with "mechanics", moreover, regardless of engine size. Cars with a 1.5- and 1.6-liter engine could be purchased in all-wheel drive modifications (Real Time 4WD), however, in the first case, only on the "mechanics". A distinctive feature of the all-wheel drive Civic with manual transmission was the use of a box with an added "super low" gear, which can be used as an alternative to the lowering range in the transmission. Of course, the Civic Shuttle 4WD does not claim to be an SUV, but it demonstrates excellent behavior even in difficult conditions, and its ground clearance of 175 mm is still very decent.

Civic Shuttle's security assessment is difficult to measure by today's standards. Even three-point belts were not provided for all seats. But nevertheless, the car, for example, could be equipped with an anti-lock braking system. The accessories of the expensive trim levels were ventilated discs of the front brakes of an increased size, a power steering with variable response. To complete the Beagle, a seat belt warning light was relied on.

Honda Civic Shuttle enjoyed and is still very popular. It perfectly combines dynamics close to Civic sedans and hatchbacks and the functionality of a real family-owned “universal” type car. On the plus side of the model is a significant release period and relatively good technical condition of the latest released copies.
