In 2005, due to lower sales of the Civic hatchback in the domestic market, it was decided to leave only the new generation sedan. Accordingly, its own name Ferio has sunk into oblivion, which has become familiar and lasted for three generations in a row. Now it's just Civic. However, it’s not quite “simple”. Still, in the new generation, the car overcame a serious overall level - the body width exceeded 1700 mm, and Civic from now on fell into the 3-number category of the classification adopted in the domestic Japanese market. In this generation, there was a kind of “split” Honda Civic - a large gap in engine volumes between gasoline and hybrid versions. Moreover, in both cases there is a departure from the previous principle of accessibility. The grown-up Civic has become more expensive: the price of the most affordable complete set with a 1.8 petrol engine starts at around 1.9 million yen - exactly as much as the last of the previous generation Civic Ferio X4 in the maximum configuration and cost 1.7 liter engine. Upon closer inspection, everything becomes clear. Honda Motor positions the eighth-generation Civic as a “sporty, emotional, joyful” car. The extension of the body benefited the safety and stability of the car. On the spaciousness of the cabin, this was also reflected in the best way. In addition to the difference in engine volume, power and interior size, the buyer received other pleasant “little things” designed to take the soul of the most loyal fans of the brand: expressive interior, spectacular instrument panel with two “layers” of information scales, a remote key with a Honda Smart Key System; front wiper, the brushes of which are moved apart in both directions, providing a large cleaning area; leather steering wheel, full disc brakes on all wheels, dual exhaust pipe with an output nozzle, turn indicators integrated in the mirrors. In more expensive trim levels - cruise control, aluminum inserts, a chic audio system with navigation and an LCD display, a leather interior, an electric trunk lock.

The Civic Hybrid externally has a trunk spoiler and a microantenna designed to reduce aerodynamic losses, a chromed molding on the bottom of the doors, and alloy wheels of the original design with dimensions of 15 or 16 inches. For this version, unlike the main model, its own classification of trim levels is adopted. In the basic version of the MXB, the hybrid is equipped with a fully automatic air conditioning, a full-time security alarm, a digital display integrated in the instrument panel showing the charge level, sun visors with built-in mirrors. In more expensive trim levels of the MX and MXST, the three-spoke sports-looking wheel has a leather braid, some interior elements are finished in metal, individual lighting is widely used, and the trunk is electrically powered. The MXST comes with Alcantara upholstery, while the MX optionally features a leather interior.

All petrol Civic were equipped with in-line four-cylinder engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters with i-VTEC system. At first, only the first of them was offered - a 16-valve SOHC with a capacity of 140 hp. Most of the modifications came with a five-speed “automatic”, but there are also options with a five-speed “mechanics”. Since 2006, a 2-liter K20A engine - a 16-valve DOHC with a capacity of 155 liters has been put on the car. with. This motor comes complete with an "automatic" S-Matic with paddle shifters. The same opportunity for additional transmission control appeared in the 1.8GL configuration (5AKPP-option). With all the splendor of the characteristics of the new Civic, there are nuances that can be attributed to shortcomings - starting from this generation, the car is offered only in the front-wheel drive version, even in the domestic market, where there has always been a special technical variety. The advanced IMA hybrid installation includes a gasoline engine with i-VTEC (Intelligent Timing System) and an electric motor. The power of a 1.3-liter gasoline engine (it has a SOHC type design with a chain drive and one inlet and outlet valve per cylinder) has grown from 86 to 94 hp compared to the previous generation. Fuel is ordinary unleaded gasoline. The electric part is a motor whose equivalent power is 20 hp. The basic principle of the IMA hybrid powerplant on the new Honda Civic Hybrid remains the same - the gasoline engine always works, and the electric motor acts as an “assistant”, adding a decent part of the torque. Compared with the previous generation, the plant’s output increased by 20%, and fuel consumption decreased to 3.2 liters per 100 km.  Civic suspension retained the type of the previous generation - front MacPherson strut, rear - double wishbone. Powerful anti-roll bars are installed on both axles to reduce lateral rolls in corners. The rack and pinion steering gear, as in the previous generation, is supplemented by an electric power amplifier. The ground clearance of the basic version is 150 mm, the hybrid - 135 mm. Significantly improved set of security systems. To the previously standard front airbags and anti-lock braking system ABS are added options such as side airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as curtain airbags that extend along the entire length of the passenger compartment. In addition, the VSA dynamic stabilization system, the IHCC intelligent cruise control system, appeared. Later VSA dynamic stabilization system was included in the list of basic equipment of some modifications, as well as standard xenon headlights.

The eighth generation Honda Civic has definitely gotten better in many ways, but also more expensive. This could not but affect the secondary market, where the right-hand drive Civic has always been a significant category. The vast majority of the proposal, with almost an equal share, falls on 1.8 engines and hybrid versions. But cars with a two-liter engine on sale are incomparably less common, which is understandable for their cost.
The Honda Civic hatchback in this body belongs to the eighth generation of the model, the production of which began in Japan back in 2005. At the same time, Honda for the first time refused to sell hatchbacks in most markets: in Japan, for example, Civic is now offered only with a sedan body. According to Honda management, it is sedans that are the most promising body type in the 21st century. But 5-door hatchbacks are also being delivered to Russia - apparently, at Honda, Russians are among those Europeans who consider golf-class cars with a separate trunk exotic. However, the hatchback, specially designed for Europe, is fundamentally different from the sedan, and not just the bodywork. The car has a different suspension, a more aggressive appearance, designed by designer Toshiyuki Okumoto.
In the Russian market, the car was presented in the following configurations: Sport (with a manual or automatic transmission), Executive (“automatic”) and the top version of Executive Glass Roof, which is also equipped with an automatic transmission. Even in the basic version, the hatchback offers a serious level of equipment: headlight washers, fog lights, rain and light sensors, cruise control, power windows and mirrors (the latter with heating), there are heated front seats, climate control, an on-board computer, immobilizer, CD -player with 6 speakers, central locking with remote control. In the top-end Glass Roof package, the buyer is offered a leather interior, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, xenon headlights, a self-dimming rearview mirror, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control. And, of course, as the name implies, the panoramic roof.

The 1.8-liter engine has a capacity of 140 hp. The i-VTEC system (continuously variable valve timing on DOHC VTEC engines) allows you to increase torque at low and medium revs and at the same time provides an additional reduction in fuel consumption, giving Honda Civic excellent performance indicators that make the engines of this series comparable to conventional engines smaller volumes. So, a hatchback with a mechanical transmission spends in the combined cycle only 6.4 liters per 100 km, and with an “automatic” - a little more than 7 liters. At the same time, the car is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 205 km / h. In addition, there are also European versions with a 1.4 liter engine and an “intelligent” i-DSI dual sequential ignition system or a 100-horsepower 1.4 i-VTEC on post-styling models. One of the major differences between the hatchback and the sedan and, in any case, revolutionary for the Civic is the presence of a semi-dependent rear suspension with a torsion beam (the sedan has a multi-link). This decision was dictated by the ability to free up additional space for the luggage compartment, because the hatchback, although not by much, is inferior in length to the sedan. At the same time, Honda engineers did everything in order to maintain the previous handling parameters. In general, the work was done not in vain. The dimensions of the trunk are impressive. It has a volume of 415 liters, and a wide opening of the rear door makes loading much easier. If you lower the rear backs, you get a flat floor at the same level with the trunk. If you lift the lower part of the rear seats, then in addition to the trunk, you will get another platform for cargo, but already in the cabin - an object up to 160 centimeters high will fit freely in it. The car is well prepared to prevent the consequences of an accident, and is also equipped with a wide range of active systems responsible for driving safety. The standard equipment includes six airbags, child seat mounts, three-point belts with pretensioners. The VSA stabilization system helps you control your vehicle while cornering, accelerating and maneuvering to avoid a collision. Brake system - with ABS with EBD (brake force distribution system), as well as an auxiliary braking system. Among other things, the car is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system.

The Civic hatchback definitely arouses interest in its unusual appearance, swiftness of form, a sufficiently voluminous interior and looks advantageous not only as a family transport, but also as a car for business trips. The popularity was ensured by the models with a fairly wide assortment in the market, moreover diluted well with imported specimens from other countries, including with smaller engines, which creates an additional opportunity for choice.
