Honda Legend 3 generation 02.1996 - 08.1998

Sedan
The third generation Legend began to be released in 1996. It continued the concept of its predecessors, has an excellent design and interior equipment, but now it is presented only in a four-door sedan-type body - the coupe is no longer available. The dimensions of the car increased slightly with the base remaining unchanged. Just like the previous generation, the Honda Legend is equipped with a 24-valve V6 engine; however, if the predecessor had an engine capacity of 3.2 liters, now it has increased to 3.5 liters. The power remained the same - 215 hp, although the torque increased.
In 1996, the car went on sale in three versions: standard, Euro (less expensive, but sporty) and the top-end Exclusive. As standard, the sedan is equipped with front fog lights, alloy wheels (15 "), a climate control system that is adjustable for tilt and reach steering column, electric front seats. Options include a leather steering wheel and leather upholstery, sunroof. Top-end Exclusive by default, it will offer a leather interior, and this includes 16-inch wheels with 215 / 60R16 tires, a cruise control system, electric rear seats, a premium audio system with a CD changer, etc. Euro design has a slightly simpler finish, but this specification is oriented driving performance - here is a sporty-tuned suspension and low-profile tires 215 / 55R16. In 1997, the Euro Exclusive version was added to the model line, combining the driving performance of a sports performance and the luxurious filling of a top-end configuration (with some exceptions). Thus, the overall offer increased to four trim levels.

The third-generation Honda Legend engine got the previous design - it has a six-cylinder V-shaped 24-valve, located longitudinally, which is somewhat unusual for a front-wheel drive car, but provides a more optimal weight distribution. The working volume of the power unit increased from 3.2 to 3.5 liters. Maximum power 215 hp achieved at 5200 rpm, maximum torque 312 Nm - at 2800 rpm. If the previous Honda Legend for some markets provided for the presence of a mechanical gearbox, then in this generation there is no "mechanics" - the sedan was equipped with a 4-speed "automatic". Fuel consumption in 10/15 mode was declared by the manufacturer at 11.5 liters per 100 km; in the mode of 60 km / h - 6.2 l / 100 km.

Legend uses an independent suspension on all four wheels, which is rightfully the pride of Honda. Thanks to her, the car has an easy, smooth ride, which, in fact, has become one of the attractive aspects of this model. Driving performance Legend is not inferior to first-class cars. It should be especially noted that when driving a car, it was possible to achieve a relatively low noise level, including due to the maximum reduction in wind sound due to the shape of the body, which has excellent aerodynamics, and the use of new insulating materials. The dimensions of the Honda Legend in the third generation have changed slightly. The length of the sedan is 4955 mm (+ 15 mm), it has retained its former width (1810 mm), and the height has increased from 1405 to 1435 mm. The wheelbase is the same - 2910 mm. The interior became a bit more spacious - 40 mm (1995 mm) long, 35 mm (1165 mm) high, its width has not changed and is 1475 mm. Honda Legend has a roomy luggage compartment - its volume is 450 liters. In the third generation, the car became more convenient and due to greater attention to such utilitarian trifles as cup holders, places for storing small things, etc.

Increased attention in the development of the Honda Legend KA9 is given to safety. The flagship sedan of the company is equipped with a new generation anti-lock braking system and traction control, two airbags for the driver and front passenger, the design of seats and head restraints is improved, the car is equipped with three-point belts for all passengers. It should be noted that the development period of this model fell on the economic downturn after the collapse of the financial “bubble” in Japan and a decrease in demand for expensive sedans. Perhaps that is why in the third generation the Honda Legend somewhat moved away from the elegant sporty style, turning into a typical “average” business-class sedan, still luxurious, but in some details even inferior to its predecessors. However, pretty soon Honda upgraded the model. Reliability and unpretentiousness of the machine is not in doubt, but age takes its toll. It is worth considering the expensive service, the difficulty with finding parts.
