When developing the third-generation Life at Honda, they were guided by the new standard for small cars. In addition to meeting the required dimensions and engine power, the safety and environmental friendliness of the model did not go unnoticed. In May 2001, Honda Life was modernized. She affected the appearance - the car has new headlights with multi-reflector reflectors, new hood and bumper, as well as side mirrors and taillights. Fuel efficiency has been improved again, and emissions have been set to "excellent-low." The capacity of the 660 cc unit increased from 50 to 52 “forces”.
Changes in the interior of Honda Life since 2001 include a modified dashboard. The center console has become more convex, has acquired a new climate control panel, a “two-twin” box for installing a radio or an on-board navigation system with an LCD screen. Redesigned seats and head restraints. At the beginning of the release of the restyled version, the company offered four options: basic B, more saturated G and a special version of Menuet based on G, as well as the top L, which includes climate control, power accessories, wood trim, CD player, etc. In December 2001, the Menuet DX model appeared (silver center console, MD / CD player with AM / FM tuner, improved protection against direct sunlight, etc. ) Since 2002, Topic versions appeared with better upholstery and new body colors, including metallic blue tourmaline; A version L was equipped with an MD / CD device. At the end of that year, the Super Topic was launched with electrically folding mirrors and other nice options. Toward the close of the release of this generation in 2003, the lineup was replenished with versions of White Pearl Limited and Super Topic CD.

In the updated version of the 3rd generation Honda Life, the same three-cylinder SOHC 12 E engine was installed. The power of the unit increased to 52 horsepower, the maximum efficiency is achieved at 7200 rpm (before the engine gave out 50 “forces” at 7000 rpm). Torque has not changed - the same 61 Nm (at 4500 rpm). In the indicator of fuel consumption efficiency, the manufacturer indicates 22.5 kilometers on one liter of gasoline - for a front-wheel drive model with a 5-speed manual gearbox. In combination with an automatic transmission (in this version, a 3-band “automatic” is still installed on the car) - 19 km / l. All-wheel drive vehicles fuel economy is estimated at 18.8-16.4 km / l. The engine, and the Life transmission is quite unpretentious and reliable, if you do not demand the impossible from the machine, save on consumables and do not delay maintenance.

The third-generation Honda Life has a different suspension depending on the type of drive. All versions have independent front suspension (MacPherson), rear - semi-dependent torsion bar for front-wheel drive or dependent De Dion for all-wheel drive cars. Combined brake system - front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. The standard wheel size is 145 / 80R12 or 155 / 65R13 depending on the configuration. With a wheelbase of 2360 mm and a track gauge of 1305/1295 (front and rear), the turning radius is 4.5 m. The dimensions of the machine itself are 3395 mm in length, 1475 and 1605 mm in width and height. Interior dimensions: 1660 x 1210 x 1255 (L x W x H). As for the transportation options, Honda Life has everything in order. As before, you can get a more spacious and wider space by folding the back row, and you get a large trunk with a flat floor.

Thanks to Honda technology, there are no omissions and deficiencies in the car's security system. The front seats are equipped with SRS airbags; the body structure is designed in such a way that in case of an accident the impact is mitigated; interior equipment provides increased head protection in a collision. As an option, the Honda Life 2001-2003 was equipped with an anti-lock braking system, an electronic brake force distribution system and an emergency braking assistance system.  As a compact city car, Honda Life has many attractive sides. It is economical, tall, roomy. Good on the cross, does not take up much parking space. In the third generation, Life has become safer, better road holding. Modernization increased power to 52 “forces”, but they hardly seem sufficient when overtaking; other disadvantages are the owners call sailing, stiffer suspension, poor corrosion resistance, expensive parts. It should be noted that in 2000-2003, the manufacturer offered a turbocharged version - Life Dunk. But it has many differences from the standard Life, so it deserves a separate place in the lineup.
