The first Mazda Cosmo cars went on sale in 1967. In 1990, the fourth generation sports coupe (JC) was introduced, produced at the facilities of a subsidiary of Eunos, which produced luxury versions of Mazda models. The two-door coupe belonged to executive cars. In 1995, the production of Eunos Cosmo was stopped. During this time, 8875 sports coupes were sold, and approximately 60% of all sales came from modifications with a low-power engine of 1.3 liters. For the Japanese market, modifications were made with right-hand drive.
Compared with the previous generation, the coupe lost its retractable headlights. Cars manufactured under the Eunos brand differed from Mazda in a different design of the radiator grill and front bumper.

On the Eunos Cosmo installed a gasoline two-rotor 1.3-liter engine rated at 230 horsepower with a torque of 294 N * m, similar to the Mazda RX-7. An absolute novelty was the two-liter three-rotor engine (280 hp with a maximum torque of 402 N * m). Thanks to this fact, the Eunos Cosmo coupe with a 2.0 liter engine remained in memory as the first car on which three-section rotary piston engines with two-stage supercharging began to be installed in series.

The car has a high fuel consumption. In the combined cycle, it is 14.5 - 16.4 liters. Depending on the installed engine, the volume of the fuel tank of the car also varies: for versions with a 1.3 liter engine it is 72 liters, and for versions with a 2.0 liter engine - 85 liters.

Coupe Junos Cosmo was produced only with rear-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission. The maximum speed of the car is 250 km / h on versions with a two-liter engine. Modifications with a 1.3-liter engine accelerated to a maximum of 230 km / h. Coupe suspension - double wishbone with front stabilizer and multi-link with double shock absorbers and rear stabilizer. On versions with a two-liter engine, a limited slip differential was installed. Brakes - ventilated, disc.

The dimensions of the car were as follows: length - 4815 mm, width - 1795 mm, height - 1305 mm. Wheelbase - 2750 mm. Ground clearance - 15 centimeters. The car had a large trunk volume of 420 liters.

A sports coupe for landing of four people is calculated. The rear seats are a sofa with a high armrest in the middle. There is an armrest between the front seats. The driver's seat is equipped with an electric drive.

The Eunos Cosmo coupe was produced in Type E and Type S trim levels. The car was far ahead of its time and many of the options offered on the car were available only on it. It was the Eunos Cosmo coupe that became the first car on which the GPS navigation system was serially installed. Also in the car were installed a color touch screen climate control, Car Control system, CD player, mobile phone and NTSC analogue television. Due to the novelty of the Eunos Cosmo coupe, the cost of its production was huge - about 10 million yen per car. This led to an early cessation of production.

The basic equipment of the Type E included power steering, front fog lights, power side mirrors, leather steering wheel braid, leather seats with lateral support, power windows, door stiffeners, cassette player and climate control. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) and cruise control were installed in the compartment. The Type S trim offered some wood-like trim.
