The 6th generation of Galant was launched in 1987 and, unlike its predecessor, the Galant Sigma was simply called Galant. The Galant Sigma has for many years been one of the best-selling mid-size sedans with a 5th body size.
In the previous generation of the model, much attention was paid to aerodynamics, resulting in a powerful European-style sedan. To “secure” sales, Sigma was launched at the same time in the back of an older generation. The 6th version of the Galant model ushered in a new direction in the engineering industry of Mitsubishi. For example, the all-wheel drive modification VR-4 laid the foundation for future sports cars of the concern.

The external parameters of the Galant fully meet the requirements that are usually set for a practical sedan. A wide range of engines is installed here: 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter gasoline, 1.8-liter diesel with turbocharging, 2-liter gasoline with and without turbocharging. In 1989, the model underwent partial changes. There was a modification of AMG.
