SUV
The second generation Mitsubishi Pajero began to be produced since 1991. Compared to the previous generation, which lasted almost 10 years on the assembly line, there have been serious changes. The dimensions of the body increased, respectively, the internal space expanded. Significantly improved the quality of external and internal equipment, which contributed to the use of this jeep in urban environments. At the same time, the second generation Pajero continued the traditions of the previous one - since 1983 this car has been a regular participant in the Paris-Dakar rally, where it regularly wins prizes. This four-wheel drive SUV is popular not only in Japan, but in all countries of the world.
Mitsubishi Pajero II has many modifications: 3-door “Metal Top” and open top “J Top”, 5-door “Mid Roof” and “Kick Up Roof” and so on. In addition, Pajero is equipped with two types of engines: a 3-liter V6 and a 2.5-liter turbodiesel, as well as two types of transmission: a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 4-speed "automatic". The most expensive configurations are still labeled “Super Exceed” - versions with a seven-seater saloon, front fog lights, power accessories including side mirror drive, sunroof, leather interior, wood-like interior trim, electric drive and seat heating, cruise control, dual air conditioning, CD player, etc. e. They differ from the basic versions externally - due to the special body kit and coloring. In 1997, restyling was carried out, which slightly changed the appearance. In particular, a small refinement of the wings gave the car a more masculine, “undaunted” look. In the same year, a sports modification Evolution was released.

At first, for the complete sets of the new Pajero, the previous generation engines went through a small modernization - 4D56 diesel engines (atmospheric and turbo with a capacity of 85 and 105 liters. with. respectively) and gasoline 6G72 (V6, 155 hp). In 1993, the range of power units was expanded with new generation engines: gasoline 6G74 (3.5 l, 208 hp) with two overhead camshafts and diesel 4M40 (2.8 l, 125 hp) with intercooler and timing chain drive. After restyling, engines with the GDI system (with direct injection) began to be installed on this car. Customers were offered a choice of two mechanical gearboxes, differing from each other in different gear ratios of the main and first gears and one “automatic”. The second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero used the latest development of the time: the Super Select 4WD all-wheel drive system. The shortcomings of the previous-generation Pajero all-wheel drive transmission, when 4WD could only be used when driving in poor road conditions, forced Mitsubishi engineers to develop a fundamentally new type of transmission. Now, acting as the transfer case lever, the driver can switch from rear to all-wheel drive right on the go at any time, while the choice of modes is quite rich: it can only be rear-wheel drive (2H), permanent full (4H), with center lock differential (4HLc). With a stop, you can enable all-wheel drive with a hard-locked center differential and the lower row in the transmission (4LLс) for heavy road conditions, fully mobilizing off-road transmission capabilities. Also, as an option, a limited-slip limited slip differential was installed on the front axle.

Significantly advanced Mitsubishi Pajero and in terms of security. For the first time, a Multi Mode ABS anti-lock braking system and EBD system were used for the first time, which ensured the full functionality of the brake system in all Super Select transmission modes, since, for example, braking with a locked center differential requires completely different braking characteristics. In addition, options such as airbags for the driver and front passenger, child seat mounts, and door stiffeners appeared on the list. The 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero, like the previous generation, is based on a frame structure, and, as a result, high strength and reliability, which is important for the operation of a used car. This is certainly one of the best SUVs of its time. In addition, in general, this generation is notable for moderate prices.
