In November 2000, a series of changes occurred with the Mitsubishi Town Box. In appearance, in particular, the design of the front of the body has changed: new headlights and a bumper of a simpler form, a chrome front grille, turn signal repeaters disappeared from the wings, etc. The interior has changed the location of some controls, installed new rear seats. At first, the engines at Town Box remained the same, but in 2002 the 4-cylinder DOHC “turbo” 4A30 was replaced by the new 3-cylinder SOHC-unit 3G83 with the same output of 64 liters. with.
Changes in the interior of the Mitsubishi Town Box after restyling are quite extensive. The climate control panel moved higher, to the place of the compartment under the radio, in the latter it was possible to install a device of size 2DIN; the location of the parking brake lever has changed, it is now habitually located between the seats to the left of the driver. The captain-type rear seats with an aisle are replaced by a sofa with large separate cushions and backs and one central armrest. The pattern of the seat upholstery, colors and materials have changed. A special version of Sound Beat Edition, released in 2003, offered a premium branded 2DIN MD-CD audio system with a 6 CD changer and four speakers, standard foglights and remote folding mirrors. Since 2005, a regular cassette player has been replaced by a CD player.

As already mentioned, after the restyling, the Mitsubishi Town Box initially continued to use the 3-cylinder 12-valve SOHC Lean Burn engine or the 4-cylinder 20-valve turbocharged engine, which was installed on the RX model. Since August 2002, the RX began to be equipped with a turbocharged 3-cylinder SOHC. Its power is the same 64 horsepower, which is achieved at 6000 rpm, and the torque is 86 Nm (at 3000 rpm). For comparison, the previous turbo unit produced maximum power at 6500 rpm, and the torque reached a value of 98 Nm. On the other hand, the new engine better met environmental requirements. In 2005, the Town Box was modernized in accordance with the changed emission standards, a new catalyst was installed. There are still four-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options. Since 2002, the RX models received not only a new engine, but also a 4WD system, upgraded to permanent all-wheel drive with torque distribution using a clutch. Equipped with a Town Box 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.  The suspension of the Mitsubishi Town Box is structurally very simple: front independent, rear dependent, both spring, guaranteeing a completely comfortable ride. Brakes - disc front and drum rear. Steering - with hydraulic booster. Recall that due to the fact that the wheels of the Town Box are located in the very corners (with a minimum overhang), it has a wheelbase typical for small cars - its size is 2390 mm, which is exactly 5 cm larger than the Minica and Toppo BJ, which, coupled with the optimal use of the internal space, gives a gain in the size of the cabin. In addition, the installation of new rear seats allowed to increase the maximum cabin length from 1840 to 1890 mm. The rear seats fold in parts, allowing you to get a large trunk with a flat floor. If you remove the head restraints of the front seats, you can fold their backs flush with the surface of the rear seat cushion.

Mitsubishi Town Box is standardly equipped with driver and passenger airbags, three-point belts, side impact protection amplifiers in the doors. An anti-lock brake system was offered as an option. The front of the body has increased safety indicators due to the fact that the car is a one-compartment with a semi-hood layout.

If we talk about the merits, then the “box” appearance of the Mitsubishi Town Box is very practical to use. Low located thresholds are convenient for landing and disembarking. The thoughtful design of the front and rear seats makes the cabin comfortable. Other advantages: spaciousness, maneuverability and dynamics (with a turbo engine). There are also disadvantages: the car is light and unstable on the highway, rather weak with the atmospheric engine. In cooperation with Nissan Motor since June 2007, an OEM-analogue of Town Box - the Clipper Rio model - has been produced. Restyling and subsequent changes extended the Town Box life on the assembly line, and in November 2007, Mitsubishi carried out another modernization to again “pull up” the car to modern requirements.
