The Impreza WRX STi is a tuning version of the compact Impreza sedan produced by Subaru's sports division, Subaru Technica International (STi). The first generation of this model was presented in January 1994. Unlike the 2.0WRX, which produced up to 240 hp, the power plant of the STi version, as a result of tuning, showed a maximum power of 250 hp. The engine was assembled by hand in the amount of 50 copies per month, which made the model almost a rarity. A large spoiler and lightweight aluminum wheels were installed on the car, which significantly improved the car's behavior on the road. (January 1994)
In 1995, the WRX STi Version II was introduced. This car was equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine, the maximum power now reached 275 horsepower. New equipment also includes a short-travel gearbox, carbon struts and a large spoiler. (August 1995)

In 1996, the third version of the WRX STi appeared. It featured a set of forged pistons mounted on the engine, a higher-powered turbocharger and a large-diameter low-back-pressure exhaust system. All this contributed to a further increase in output power: 280 hp. In addition, the car received reinforced body and chassis structures, and the braking system received 4-piston calipers with a diameter of 16 inches. (September 1996)

The design of the dashboard, center console, door trim has been completely updated, the seats are equipped with a height adjustment mechanism using disc adjusters. In addition, in the WRX STi Version IV, the STi tuners have managed to further increase the maximum engine torque. (September 1997)

In Version V, the following solutions were embodied: an updated suspension design, a redesign of the radiator grille and front bumper, installed faceted fog lights, Sports ABS and a large spoiler. (September 1998)

And finally, the last restyling version in this generation was born - Version VI. This time the car received a front lower body kit, a slightly modified rear spoiler, lightweight rear side windows. (September 1999)

The Impreza, which gained immense popularity as a compact sedan and station wagon in the 1.6-1.8-liter class, was also produced in a coupe body. At first it was a low-cost, easy-to-drive Impreza Coupe Retna aimed primarily at women. Retna was produced for no more than a year, and then its sales ceased due to low demand. However, then the Impreza coupe was reborn as a high-performance sports car - already in the Impreza WRX STi Type R version with a two-liter 280 hp engine. This version has achieved high popularity. A little later, the 22B package was released, which has a wider body and a 2 engine. 2 liters. She went on sale in limited quantities.
